Job summary

Kawan Renergy is seeking a Design and Costing Engineer in Ipoh to contribute to sustainable energy projects. You will design and size equipment, prepare P&IDs, datasheets and cost estimates, and help develop technical and commercial proposals for tenders.

Collaboration with clients, suppliers and internal teams is essential. The role welcomes fresh graduates and junior professionals with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, who are eager to learn and apply practical engineering

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical, mechanical, electrical engineering or related field.
• Fresh graduates and junior professionals encouraged to apply.
• 0–3 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills, ability to read technical drawings.
• Comfortable with cost estimates and financial spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design, calculations and equipment sizing.
• Prepare P&IDs, datasheets, drawings and other technical documents.
• Prepare project cost estimates, quotations, budgets and material take-offs.
• Develop technical and commercial proposals for tenders and client submissions.
• Review client requirements, technical specifications and contract documents.
• Identify risks during proposal and design stages.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.

Design and Costing Engineer

As a Design and Costing Engineer, you will support engineering design, equipment sizing, project costing and tender preparation. You will work with clients, consultants, suppliers and project teams to develop practical, technically sound and cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design, technical calculations and equipment sizing.
• Prepare Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), datasheets, drawings and other technical documents.
• Prepare project cost estimates, quotations, budgets and material take-offs.
• Develop technical and commercial proposals for tenders and client submissions.
• Review client requirements, technical specifications and contract documents.
• Identify technical, commercial and project risks during the proposal and design stages.
• Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams.
• Support project execution, site activities, testing, commissioning and technical troubleshooting.
• Research emerging energy technologies and sustainable engineering solutions.
• Identify design optimisation and cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety, quality or performance.
• Develop practical and cost-effective solutions based on project and client requirements.

Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or another relevant engineering discipline.
• Open to fresh graduates and junior professionals.
• Candidates with fewer than three years of relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
• Strong analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills.
• Comfortable preparing cost estimates and working with financial or costing spreadsheets.
• Able to read and understand engineering drawings, technical specifications and project requirements.
• Detail-oriented, organised and capable of identifying design and cost optimisation opportunities.
