KMWE Malaysia Sdn Bhd in Penang is seeking an experienced Cost Engineer to lead the Cost Engineering team and own end-to-end RFQ costing for new and existing business opportunities.
You will review BOMs, specifications and supplier quotes, build detailed cost models, and collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Production, Quality and Finance to secure competitive quotations and drive cost-reduction initiatives.
Lead and develop the Cost Engineering team to deliver accurate, timely and competitive quotations.
Manage end-to-end RFQ costing for new and existing business opportunities.
Review BOMs, engineering drawings, specifications and customer requirements to identify cost drivers and manufacturing requirements.
Develop detailed cost models covering materials, machining, fabrication, labour, tooling, inspection, subcontracting, logistics, NRE, CAPEX and overheads.
Determine manufacturing routes, machine selection, cycle times, manpower and inspection requirements.
Work closely with Sales, Engineering, Production, Quality, Supply Chain, Finance and Program teams to validate quotation assumptions.
Review supplier and subcontractor quotations and assess material pricing, MOQ, lead time, yield, scrap and exchange-rate assumptions.
Lead quotation reviews and ensure risks, assumptions, exclusions and commercial requirements are properly documented.
Analyse estimated versus actual costs and drive corrective actions, cost-down and value-engineering initiatives.
Support customer negotiations, quotation revisions, product transfers and intercompany costing activities.
Monitor quotation conversion, margins, cost variances and post-award cost performance.
Prepare management reports covering RFQ pipeline, quotation lead time, win/loss analysis, margins and cost-reduction achievements.
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline. Candidates without a degree may be considered with at least 7 years of directly related experience and relevant technical training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in cost engineering, manufacturing engineering, quotation, process engineering or commercial costing.
Experience in precision machining, metal fabrication, semiconductor equipment or high-mix manufacturing is highly preferred.
At least 3 years of leadership, supervisory or project-lead experience is preferred.
Strong knowledge of CNC machining, sheet metal/fabrication, assembly, inspection, tooling and subcontracting processes.
Able to interpret BOMs, engineering drawings, specifications, welding symbols and GD&T.
Strong understanding of machine/labour rates, cycle-time calculation, overheads, NRE, CAPEX, margins and quotation risks.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; ERP, Power BI and costing-system experience are advantageous.
Strong analytical, leadership, communication, stakeholder-management and negotiation skills.
