Job summary

Nippon Paint (M) Sdn Bhd is seeking an Automotive OEM Colour Chemist in Shah Alam to develop and maintain technical expertise in colour matching for automotive coating systems. You will coordinate OEM colour projects, interpret colour standards, and guide lab staff to achieve precise colour reproduction for customer specifications.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and 1–3 years in the paint industry, with strong knowledge of spectrophotometers, colour software, and formulation

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain expertise on automotive OEM colour chemistries and innovations.
• Coordinate colour matching projects and activities for automotive OEMs.
• Evaluate OEM colour standards and ensure accurate colour reproduction per customer requirements.
• Assign colour adjustment work with laboratory colour matcher.
• Review colour results and provide guidance to laboratory staff to hit target specs.
• Analyse colour data using spectrophotometers and colour software.
• Troubleshoot colour issues and implement corrective actions for approvals.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to maintain colour consistency during scale-up.
• Prepare technical reports, formulations and related documentation.

Requirements:

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining technical expertise on advances and innovations in R&D for Automotive (OEM) Colour Chemist. Besides dealing with the challenges that come along with this portfolio, you will also experience and contribute to our dynamic working culture. Your responsibilities will require you to communicate extensively with various stakeholders from both internally within the Company or group of companies and externally with our business partners.

Below is a synopsis of your job function:

Managing and coordinate all automotive OEM colour matching projects and activities.

Evaluate OEM colour standards and ensure accurate colour reproduction according to customer requirements.

Assign and coordinate colour adjustment work with laboratory colour matcher.

Review colour matching results and provide technical guidance to laboratory personnel to achieve target colour specifications.

Analyse colour data using spectrophotometers, colour software, and visual assessments.

Troubleshoot colour-related issues and implement corrective actions to achieve colour approval.

Work closely with production and quality teams to ensure colour consistency during scale-up and manufacturing.

Prepare technical reports, colour formulations, and related documentation.

Support customer colour approval activities and technical discussions for initial stage colour development.

Maintain colour databases and formulation records.

Ensure all colour development activities comply with company quality and safety requirements.

Background:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from recognised university.

Experience:

Minimum 1 - 3 years of relevant working experience in paint industry.

Knowledge of automotive OEM paint systems, pigments, effect pigments, and colour measurement instruments.

Familiar with spectrophotometers, colour software, and colour formulation systems.

Experienced with proven track record in the ability of solving paint application issues.

Knowledge & Skill:

Excellent time management and organisation skills, meticulous and delivers quality work.

Able to work well under pressure to meet tight deadlines and handling multiple tasks.
