Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of relevant experience in business development, tendering, sales, or commercial roles within the construction industry.
  • At least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing multi-project or group operations.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects and multiple business entities.
  • Strong negotiation, presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong understanding of the Malaysian construction industry, tender processes, project acquisition, and construction contracts.
  • Established network and relationships with developers, clients, consultants, contractors, government agencies, or industry stakeholders will be a strong advantage.
  • Proven track record in securing construction projects, tenders, or business opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue new opportunities, projects, clients, and partnerships in construction.
  • Develop and execute business development strategies to drive growth.
  • Conduct market research on upcoming projects, trends, competitors.
  • Expand and maintain a network of clients, consultants, developers, and agencies.
  • Coordinate with Estimation, QS, Contracts, Technical, and Project teams on tenders.
  • Review tender requirements and project scope before submission.
  • Support negotiations with clients to improve win chances.
  • Build and maintain relationships; represent the company in meetings and events.
  • Develop strategies to enter new markets and expand client portfolios.
  • Assess project viability, commercial risks, and potential returns with relevant teams.
  • Lead BD activities; mentor junior team members.
  • Ad-hoc duties as assigned by Managing Director.

Business Development Manager (Construction Industry)

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven Business Development Manager to drive business growth and secure new construction opportunities. The role will focus on identifying potential projects, developing strategic client relationships, leading tender opportunities, and expanding the Group’s business network and market presence.


Key Responsibilities



  • 1. Business Development & Market Expansion

    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, projects, clients, and strategic partnerships within the construction industry.

    • Develop and execute business development strategies to achieve company growth and revenue targets.

    • Conduct market research to identify upcoming projects, market trends, competitors, and potential business opportunities.

    • Expand and maintain a strong network of clients, consultants, developers, government agencies, and industry stakeholders.

    • Identify and evaluate potential construction projects suitable for the Group.

    • Monitor upcoming tenders, invitations to tender, and project opportunities.

    • Coordinate with the Estimation, QS, Contracts, Technical, and Project teams in preparing tenders and proposals.

    • Review tender requirements, project scope, commercial terms, and business potential before submission.

    • Support negotiations with clients and stakeholders to improve the Group's chances of securing projects.



  • 3. Client & Stakeholder Management

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients, consultants, developers, and strategic partners.

    • Represent the company in client meetings, business discussions, networking events, and industry engagements.

    • Understand clients' requirements and develop appropriate solutions and business proposals.

    • Maintain regular follow-up with prospects from initial engagement through project award.



  • 4. Strategic Business Development

    • Develop strategies to enter new markets, expand client portfolios, and increase project opportunities.

    • Identify potential joint ventures, strategic partnerships, and collaboration opportunities.

    • Provide Management with regular updates on market conditions, business opportunities, competitors, and potential projects.

    • Prepare business development reports, project pipelines, and opportunity forecasts for Management review.



  • 5. Commercial & Project Coordination

    • Work closely with QS, Contracts, Finance, and Project teams to assess project viability, commercial risks, and potential returns.

    • Support Management in evaluating project acquisition opportunities and commercial strategies.

    • Monitor the status of ongoing tenders and business opportunities and ensure timely follow-up.

    • Lead and coordinate business development activities and ensure effective follow-up on potential opportunities.

    • Mentor and guide junior business development team members where applicable.

    • Work closely with internal departments to ensure smooth transition from business development to project execution.



  • 7. Ad-hoc Duties

    • Perform any other duties or special projects assigned by the Managing Director / Management from time to time.
