Job summary

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur is seeking an experienced Purchasing professional to manage hotel procurement, supplier selection, and cost controls for our deluxe property. You will lead Purchasing Officers, coordinate tender processes, and source products for multiple hotel departments, ensuring high-quality standards and timely deliveries.

Ideal candidates have strong negotiation and leadership skills, with English proficiency and a background in hospitality procurement.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of purchasing/procurement experience in a large organization, preferably within hospitality.
  • At least 3 years of experience as a Purchasing Officer in the hospitality or catering industry.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of accounting concepts.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Self-motivated with initiative and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Purchase all hotel requirements while ensuring quality, quantity, and cost efficiency.
  • Obtain competitive quotations from at least three suppliers.
  • Prepare supplier comparison and quotation analyses.
  • Prepare tender documents, evaluate bids, negotiate pricing, and recommend final prices to management.
  • Source products, services, and contractors for special projects.
  • Conduct market surveys and monitor supplier pricing trends.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative products without compromising quality.
  • Build and maintain relationships with existing and prospective suppliers.
  • Attend trade shows and exhibitions to identify new products and industry developments.
  • Coordinate inventory and par stock levels with the Cost Controller.
  • Arrange consignment stock and manage purchasing controls.
  • Maintain supplier records and support tax and customs procedures.
  • Supervise Purchasing Officers and Purchasing Clerks.
  • Conduct staff coaching, counselling, performance reviews, and regular briefings.
  • Communicate management directives and represent the team in finance meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, attendance standards, and disciplinary procedures.
  • Promote environmental sustainability, waste reduction, recycling, and energy conservation initiatives.
  • Maintain professional conduct, ethics, grooming, and hygiene standards.

Job Requirements
