Riken Keiki is a Japanese manufacturer of gas detection equipment. Riken Keiki (M) Sdn. Bhd. is its Malaysian arm, supplying and servicing fixed, portable and aspirated gas detectors, together with calibration and maintenance, from Petaling Jaya and Penang. We support customers in oil & gas, semiconductor, petrochemical and general industry.
About the role
This Application Engineer role is a hybrid of Project Engineer, Customer Service and Service Engineer. We want someone with a project management background and strong customer service skills, including handling customer enquiries and quotations. You will own enquiries through to quotation, coordinate projects and subcontractors, stay close to our installed base, and still work on site — including onsite calibration services and troubleshooting, plus sensor replacement. It is not a desk-only role.
Key responsibilities
Handle customer enquiries and quotations: respond promptly to enquiries and requests, prepare and issue project and service quotations (gas detection systems, calibration services, sensors, spares and related scope), and follow them up. Quoting is a core part of this role.
Deliver strong customer service for your assigned accounts, with strong installed-base engagement.
Apply project management skills on new projects, plant expansions and new facilities: understand site needs, define scope, plan tasks/schedules/manpower, and coordinate Sales, Service and subcontractors.
Perform and support onsite calibration services and troubleshooting, plus sensor replacement, testing and system checks at customer sites.
Provide technical advice, product demonstrations and customer training on installation, operation and maintenance.
Grow service revenue through proactive visits, maintenance and replacement opportunities, and competitor displacement where relevant.
Keep quotations, job records and reports complete and timely; work closely with Sales, Service and project colleagues.
Travel to customer sites as required. Field capability is essential — this role must not be tied down only behind quotations.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation or related); Diploma holders with strong relevant experience may be considered.

Clear project management background (planning, coordination, follow-through on multi-party jobs).
Strong customer service skills — responsive, clear with customers, and accountable for follow-up.
Proven ability in handling customer enquiries and quotations (technical or industrial products preferred).
Hands‑on experience with onsite calibration services and troubleshooting (or closely related field instrumentation work).
Able to quote and discuss technical solutions with customers, and to carry out site work.
Own transport; willing to travel for customer visits and project work.
Comfortable with technical documentation; CAD experience is an advantage.
Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia; Mandarin or Japanese is an added advantage.
Experience in semiconductor, oil & gas or industrial plants is an advantage. Gas detection product training is provided.
Competitive package within the stated range, with room to grow as you deliver.
