Job summary

Riken Keiki Sdn. Bhd. in Malaysia is seeking an Application Engineer based in Pengerang to support customers in the Southern region.

The role combines service engineering, customer service and project coordination, including onsite calibration, quotations and engagement with installed-base customers. You will respond to calibration service requests, handle sales enquiries through to quotation, and stay close to our gas detection systems on site.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation or related); Diploma holders with strong relevant experience may be considered.
• 3–4 years' experience preferred in application engineering, field service, calibration or technical customer service for instrumentation / industrial safety.
• Hands-on experience with onsite calibration and troubleshooting (or closely related field instrumentation work).
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision at a remote site.
• Living in or willing to be based in Pengerang / south-east Johor; own transport and willingness to travel within Johor.

• Handle onsite calibration service requests in the Southern region and perform troubleshooting and sensor replacement.
• Prepare and issue service and project quotations and follow them up.
• Engage with customers to deliver strong service and maintain installed base in Pengerang, Tanjung Langsat and Pasir Gudang.
• Coordinate jobs end-to-end: plan tasks, schedules and manpower with Sales, Service and subcontractors.
• Provide technical advice, product demonstrations and customer training on installation, operation and maintenance.

Job description

Riken Keiki is a manufacturer of gas detection equipment. Riken Keiki (M) Sdn. Bhd. is its Malaysian arm, supplying and servicing fixed, portable and aspirated gas detectors, together with calibration and maintenance, from Petaling Jaya and Penang. We support customers in oil & gas, petrochemical, semiconductor and general industry.

About the role

Based in Pengerang, this Application Engineer is our go-to person for customers in the Southern region, including the Pengerang petrochemical complex, Tanjung Langsat and the chemical plants in Pasir Gudang. The role is a hybrid of Service Engineer, Customer Service and Project Engineer: you will respond to calibration service requests, handle sales enquiries through to quotation, and stay close to our installed base on site. It is not a desk-only role.

Key responsibilities

• Handle ad hoc calibration service requests in the Southern region: perform onsite calibration, troubleshooting and sensor replacement, plus testing and system checks at customer sites.
• Handle customer enquiries and quotations: respond promptly, prepare and issue service and project quotations (gas detection systems, calibration services, sensors, spares) and follow them up.
• Deliver strong customer service to assigned accounts, with close installed-base engagement in Pengerang, Tanjung Langsat and Pasir Gudang.
• Coordinate jobs end to end: plan tasks, schedules and manpower, and work with Sales, Service, the PJ team and subcontractors.
• Support new projects, plant expansions and new facilities: understand site needs and define scope.
• Provide technical advice, product demonstrations and customer training on installation, operation and maintenance.
• Grow service revenue through proactive visits, maintenance and replacement opportunities.
• Keep quotations, job records and service reports complete and timely.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation or related); Diploma holders with strong relevant experience may be considered.
• 3–4 years' experience preferred in application engineering, field service, calibration or technical customer service for instrumentation / industrial safety.
• Hands‑on experience with onsite calibration and troubleshooting (or closely related field instrumentation work).
• Proven ability to handle customer enquiries and quotations; project coordination experience is a plus.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision at a remote site.
• Living in or willing to be based in Pengerang / south‑east Johor; own transport and willing to travel within Johor.
• Fluency in English and Bahasa Malaysia; Mandarin or Japanese is an added advantage.
• Experience in oil & gas, petrochemical plants, fire & gas or gas detection systems is an advantage. Gas detection product training is provided.
