A global news organization is seeking a Latin America Breaking & Daily News Editor to manage the daily news file across various formats. The role involves overseeing breaking news coverage, making rapid editorial decisions under pressure, and mentoring a diverse team of journalists. Strong editorial judgement and experience in breaking news journalism are essential. Reuters wants an experienced journalist with impeccable news judgment to manage the daily, breaking news file in Latin America across all formats — text, video and pictures.
The Breaking & Daily News Editor will oversee our response to breaking news events, from first snaps, pictures and live video coverage to fast, additional content such as personal stories and explainers. They are also responsible for daily news coverage, from set‑piece events like elections and summits to viral‑worthy, slice‑of‑life stories.
Reporting to the Latin America Editor, this role is central to setting editorial priorities for the day and ensuring timely, accurate, and high‑impact coverage that meets the needs of Reuters’ global clients.
As Breaking News & Daily Editor, you will oversee integrated text‑visuals breaking news hubs stretching across the entire region: the Southern Cone, the northern Andes, Brazil, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
The region’s breaking and daily news operations also include local‑language text services for Brazil in Portuguese and for the rest of the region in Spanish.
You will have a deep knowledge of the region and prioritise stories that matter most to clients, with a sharp focus on speed and accuracy. You will have experience in dealing with staff safety in hostile environments and have a strong track record in people management, including hiring and developing talent.
You will be expected to make quick editorial decisions under pressure and to understand the needs of our three main client groups: the London Stock Exchange Group’s global network, which includes the local‑language services; agency media, which includes the world’s top broadcasters, newspapers and digital outlets; and Reuters’ own digital readers on the app, reuters.com and social media accounts.
The role will be based in Mexico City and report to the Latin America Editor.
