Job summary

Sanmina Corporation is seeking an NPI Manufacturing Engineer with deep expertise in metal fabrication and soft tooling. You will define, design, and implement robust processes for new parts, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards across projects.

You will lead tooling definitions, process validation, and carry out PPAP/Cpk analyses, while coordinating transfers from development to volume production and supporting customer audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering.
• 5+ years in metal‑mechanic or sheet metal fabrication, with NPI focus.
• 4+ years in soft tooling fabrication, CNC punching and laser cutting.
• Experience with TIG/MIG welding and metal forming.

Responsibilities

• NPI & Process Design: design, implement, and control manufacturing processes for new part numbers (NPI), focusing on sheet metal fabrication (Soft Tooling).
• Documentation & Core Tools: create and maintain WI, PFDs, FMEAs, PFMEAs, and Control Plans for new releases.
• Quality & Engineering Validation: support PPAP, Cpk studies, 8D problem solving, and FPY optimization during pilots.
• Equipment & Tooling: define tooling, RFQs, and layout for new machinery or soft tooling.
• Transfer & Operational Excellence: lead production transfers and plant start‑ups; drive 5S and standardization.
• Customer & Audit Support: interface with teams on drawings, deviations, and audits (ISO 9001, IATF).

Sanmina is looking for a skilled, proactive, and results-oriented NPI Manufacturing Engineer specialized in metal fabrication and soft tooling processes. In this role, you will be the cornerstone of our manufacturing efficiency and product launches. You will be responsible for defining, designing, and implementing robust manufacturing processes for new fabricated parts, ensuring compliance with NPI project timelines, quality standards, and operational safety.

Key Responsibilities & Specific Functions

• NPI & Process Design: Design, implement, and control manufacturing processes for new part numbers (NPI), focusing on sheet metal fabrication (Soft Tooling), including punching, laser cutting, bending (press brakes), CNC machining, and welding (TIG/MIG).
• Documentation & Core Tools: Create, implement, and maintain detailed Work Instructions, Process Flow Diagrams, FMEAs/PFMEAs, and Control Plans for new product releases.
• Quality & Engineering Validation: Support PPAP deliverables, Cpk studies, root cause analysis (8D, 5Ws), and First Pass Yield (FPY) optimization during pilot runs.
• Equipment & Tooling: Review equipment technical requirements, define tooling/fixtures, layout setup, and coordinate RFQs for new machinery or soft tool acquisitions.
• Transfer & Operational Excellence: Lead smooth production transfers and plant start-ups from development to volume release. Drive 5S initiatives, visual aids, and standardization across manufacturing lines.
• Customer & Audit Support: Interface with cross-functional teams and customers on technical drawing interpretations, deviation reports, and support internal/external audits (ISO 9001, IATF, Environmental Management Systems).

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or related field (Required).
• Experience: 5+ years of experience in the Metal-Mechanic / Sheet Metal Fabrication industry, with a strong focus on NPI (New Product Introduction) environments.
• Soft Tooling Expertise (Mandatory): 4+ years of hands‑on technical experience in soft tooling fabrication processes, specifically: CNC Punching & Laser Cutting (Trumpf, Mazak, Amada or similar).
• Welding (TIG/MIG/Spot Welding) and metal forming/rolling.
• Technical Knowledge: Strong ability to interpret technical engineering drawings, GD&T, Cpk studies, tolerance stack-ups, and basic knowledge of plating/coatings (Epoxy, Tin plating).
• Software Proficiency: Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Oracle (or similar ERP/MRP systems), and Microsoft Office.
