Job summary

Optima Organizational Solutions is seeking an Engineering Manager to support a Matamoros, Tamaulipas manufacturing facility that produces bolts, screws and anchors via steel wire cold forming. The role leads the engineering team to develop and industrialize new products, improve manufacturing processes, and implement tooling solutions.

You will partner with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain and global engineering teams to drive safety, quality, productivity and cost reductions,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or metallurgical engineering.
• At least five years in engineering management in a manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on knowledge of steel wire cold forming or cold heading.
• Experience with metalworking in fastener or precision metal component manufacturing.
• Experience leading NPI, process engineering, and manufacturing engineering.
• Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, PFMEA, SPC, and structured problem solving.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances, and product specifications.
• Strong communication skills in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY

Our client, a leading European multinationalcompany that develops, manufactures, and markets products for the construction,building maintenance, energy and manufacturing industries, mainly to the professional end-user. They have requested us to search for an Engineering Manager to support their Matamoros, Tamps. manufacturing facility. The site manufactures bolts, screws, and anchors for the construction industry, with steel wire cold forming as a core process, supported by other metalworking operations.

The Engineering Manager will lead the engineering team in developing and industrializing new products, improving existing manufacturing processes, and implementing equipment and tooling solutions. This role will work closely with Operations, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and global engineering teams to improve safety, quality, productivity, and manufacturing cost.

Engineering Leadership

• Lead and develop the NPI, Process Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering team, establishing clear priorities, objectives, and accountability.
• Define and execute the plant’s engineering roadmap in alignment with production requirements, new product launches, and business objectives.
• Manage engineering resources, project budgets, and timelines while providing technical support to manufacturing operations.

New Product Introduction

• Lead new product industrialization from feasibility assessment and process development through validation, launch, and production stabilization.
• Collaborate with product development teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet quality, capacity, and cost requirements.
• Coordinate tooling development, equipment specifications, production trials, and process qualification.
• Establish process parameters, work instructions, and technical documentation to ensure a controlled transition into production.

Process and Manufacturing Engineering

• Develop and optimize steel wire cold forming processes, including cold heading and related tooling, material flow, and process controls.
• Support and improve secondary operations such as thread rolling, machining, stamping, finishing, and assembly, as applicable.
• Improve equipment utilization, cycle times, changeover performance, process capability, and manufacturing efficiency.
• Lead technical problem-solving to address recurring defects, scrap, downtime, and tooling failures.
• Maintain process flows, PFMEAs, standard work, and engineering change documentation in coordination with Quality and Operations.

Continuous Improvement and Capital Projects

• Identify and implement projects that reduce manufacturing cost, improve yield, and increase production capacity.
• Apply Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and structured root-cause analysis to improve process performance.
• Lead equipment selection, supplier evaluation, installation, commissioning, and production readiness for capital projects.
• Integrate safety, ergonomics, maintainability, and quality requirements into equipment and process design.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least five years of experience in a similar engineering management role within a manufacturing environment.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of steel wire cold forming or cold heading, including tooling, process parameters, material behavior, and defect prevention.
• Experience with metalworking processes used in fastener or precision metal component manufacturing.
• Demonstrated responsibility for NPI, process engineering, and manufacturing engineering.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams and managing cross-functional technical projects.
• Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, process capability, PFMEA, statistical process control, and structured problem-solving.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances, and product specifications.
• Strong communication skills in English and Spanish to support local and international collaboration.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience manufacturing bolts, screws, anchors, or other cold-formed metal fasteners.
• Experience with thread rolling, heat treatment, surface finishing, plating, or automated assembly.
• Experience with production transfers, automation, and capital equipment implementation.
• Lean or Six Sigma certification.
