Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer on the Protection team, based in Mexico. You will design and develop scalable backend systems for payment dispute management, fraud prevention, and risk automation.

You will take ownership of critical backend systems, from architecture and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and improvement, in a fully remote environment. Working with Engineering and Product leadership, you will translate merchant challenges into reliable automated solutions,

Qualifications

• Proven experience owning backend systems end to end, from architecture and development through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing maintenance.
• Strong software engineering and system design skills, with the ability to design scalable backend architectures and make sound technical decisions in evolving environments.
• Experience building systems from scratch, defining technical approaches, and taking ownership of ambiguous problems without relying on fully established processes.
• High standards for code quality, testing, reliability, and operational excellence, particularly when developing systems where failures can have significant financial or operational consequences.
• A proactive, delivery‑focused mindset, with a track record of shipping improvements frequently, gathering feedback, and translating ideas into reliable customer‑facing functionality.
• Experience mentoring engineers, supporting colleagues' technical development, or helping establish engineering best practices.
• Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills, with the ability to investigate complex issues and balance speed of delivery with long‑term system quality.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with Engineering and Product stakeholders in a remote, distributed environment.

Responsibilities

• Backend Engineering and Architecture: Design, build, deploy, and maintain robust backend systems, taking ownership of solutions throughout their lifecycle.
• Payment Dispute Automation: Develop automation capabilities for disputes at scale, including notifications, deadlines, evidence collection, and response workflows.
• Payment Service Provider Integrations: Expand dispute coverage by integrating additional providers and ensuring consistent functionality.
• Fraud Prevention Integrations: Collaborate with third‑party fraud prevention providers to build a unified experience across platforms.
• Rules and Signals Engine: Design native risk management capabilities, including velocity rules and device fingerprinting.
• Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Work with Engineering Managers, Product Managers, and stakeholders to translate merchant challenges into technical solutions.
• Product Development: Contribute to backend development and support dashboard frontend when needed.
• Quality, Reliability, and Monitoring: Establish high engineering standards with testing, reviews, and observability.
