Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Fraud Specialist based in Mexico.

As a Senior Fraud Specialist, you will play a key role in safeguarding a growing international payments platform by developing and implementing robust fraud prevention strategies. You will take full ownership of the fraud prevention function, from real-time transaction monitoring and complex investigations to the design of risk controls and detection models. Your work will help minimize financial losses while maintaining a seamless experience for legitimate users. Operating in a fast-paced, fully remote fintech environment, you will combine hands-on execution with strategic thinking to build scalable fraud prevention policies and processes. This is an opportunity to shape the foundations of a critical business function, collaborate across teams, and potentially build and lead a dedicated fraud prevention team as the business grows.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, establish, and continuously improve the fraud prevention framework, including policies, procedures, and risk management strategies tailored to international remittances and cross-border payments.
  • Monitor transactions in real time, analyze behavioral patterns, and identify suspicious activities, emerging fraud trends, and potential financial risks.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize fraud detection rules and risk controls to reduce fraudulent transactions while minimizing friction for legitimate users.
  • Investigate complex fraud cases, manage alerts, assess suspicious activity, and coordinate responses to security incidents.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve fraud detection models, monitoring processes, and investigation workflows to strengthen prevention capabilities.
  • Identify and address fraud typologies such as identity theft, mule accounts, account takeover, and social engineering.
  • Take full ownership of fraud prevention operations, prioritize initiatives according to risk exposure, and make informed decisions in a resource-conscious, high-growth environment.
  • Establish the foundations for a scalable fraud prevention function, with the opportunity to develop and lead a team as business needs evolve.
Requirements:
  • Significant hands-on experience in fraud prevention, ideally within fintech, digital payments, remittances, or cross-border financial services.
  • Proven ability to build fraud prevention policies, procedures, and risk management frameworks from the ground up.
  • Strong practical experience in transaction monitoring, fraud investigations, alert management, risk rule configuration, and continuous improvement of detection models.
  • Solid understanding of fraud typologies affecting remittances and international payments, including identity theft, mule accounts, account takeover, and social engineering.
  • Familiarity with AML/CFT and KYC regulatory frameworks, as well as the compliance considerations associated with financial transactions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret transaction patterns, assess risk exposure, and make data-driven decisions.
  • A proactive, hands-on mindset with the ability to balance strategic planning and day-to-day execution without relying on a large team or established infrastructure.
  • Excellent prioritization, independent decision-making, and ownership skills, with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-growing environment with limited resources.
  • Leadership potential and the ability to establish processes, influence stakeholders, and build a team as the function expands.
  • Comfort working remotely and collaborating across geographically distributed teams in Latin America and other international markets.
Benefits:
  • Fully remote work, with the flexibility to organize your working day from anywhere in Latin America.
  • Additional vacation days to support rest, personal well-being, and work-life balance.
  • The opportunity to build and shape a fraud prevention function from the ground up within an innovative fintech environment.
  • Significant ownership and autonomy, with the opportunity to influence risk strategy and contribute directly to the security and reliability of international payments.
  • Potential to develop and lead a dedicated fraud prevention team as the business scales.
  • A dynamic, international, and growth-oriented environment where your expertise can have a meaningful impact.
