Job summary

ABB in Nogales is seeking a senior engineer to contribute to transformer design and IP development. You will act as the main R&D contact for product-related issues and maintenance, developing innovative solutions to advance technology and business results.

The role supports a remote-friendly work model (#LI-Remote) and travels as required, with responsibility across engineering, testing, and documentation in the ELSB Transformers Business Line.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years in electrical design, especially transformer design and development.
• Strong knowledge of UL, CSA, NEMA, IEEE, IEC standards.
• Experience with transformer design simulations and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge in a specialized area by incorporating latest technologies and methodologies.
• Develop innovative approaches to solving engineering challenges with hypotheses and validation.
• Document technical findings, designs and results for knowledge sharing.
• Support IP generation and project IP strategies within the area of specialization.

This position reports to:

Technical Product Manager

Your Role: Meet the Challenge

In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a significant contribution to technology, product, and solution development, as well as related Intellectual Property (IP). You will serve as the first point of contact within Research & Development for specific product-related issues and maintenance activities. You will also leverage your skills to identify, propose, and implement innovative solutions that help business results.

This role is contributing to the the ELSB Transformers Business Line based in Nogales.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain knowledge in a specialized area by incorporating the latest technologies, tools, and methodologies into your work.
• Develop innovative approaches to solving complex engineering challenges by generating ideas, creating hypotheses, and defining validation methods.
• Document technical findings, designs, calculations, and project results to ensure knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to Intellectual Property (IP) generation within your area of specialization and support the development of project IP strategies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience in electrical design, particularly in transformer design and development.
• Solid knowledge of applicable industry standards, including UL, CSA, NEMA, IEEE, and IEC.
• Experience using simulation software for transformer design and analysis.
• Advanced English and Spanish communication skills.
• Availability to travel as required.
• Customer-oriented mindset with solid problem-solving skills.
• Experience in manufacturing processes, transformer assembly, and test report interpretation.
• Valid U.S. visa and passport are preferred.
