EdgeUno is a US based technology infrastructure company expanding its Latin American data center operations, including Mexico. We are seeking a Data Center Engineer to maintain and harden our colocated facilities and support 24x7 uptime.

The role covers rack installation, cable management, asset tracking, incident response, and collaboration with regional teams to plan deployments while ensuring security and reliability across Querétaro and Guadalajara sites.

Formación

Role Overview

The Data Center Engineer is responsible for the operational health of EdgeUno's colocation facilities, primarily the Points of Presence (POPs) in Querétaro and Guadalajara, Mexico. The role combines hands on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of IT and network infrastructure with planning, documentation, and coordination of deployment activities, supporting the reliability and security standards required by a 24x7 infrastructure environment.

About the Role

This position sits inside EdgeUno's regional infrastructure operations, working directly with racks, cabling, servers, network devices, and facility systems inside the data center. The engineer coordinates with internal teams on deployments, asset tracking, and capacity planning, and supports incident response and maintenance windows as needed. The role requires physical, hands on work (equipment installation, cabling, hardware handling) and may require availability outside standard business hours depending on operational demands.

Core Responsibilities

Equipment Installation and Maintenance

• Rack, stack, and cable IT equipment, including servers, network devices, firewalls, and rPDUs.
• Implement and maintain structured cable management best practices.
• Commission and decommission equipment.
• Assist with the deployment of rack and Meet Me Room (MMR) cabling, ensuring high quality standards.
• Perform Layer 1 and basic Layer 2 troubleshooting for servers and network devices.

Infrastructure and Facility Management

• Maintain and update the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Support Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) activities, including asset tracking and capacity documentation.
• Ensure cleanliness, organization, and proper operational standards within the data center environment.
• Conduct physical audits of data center assets and infrastructure.
• Manage and keep updated warehouse, device, and optic spares.

IT Equipment Handling and Security

• Securely decommission IT equipment, including removal of Data Bearing Devices (DBDs) and preparation for secure destruction.
• Execute hard drive shredding procedures according to company security policies.
• Move locked DBD bins to designated shredding areas.
• Support audit and inventory management processes.

Operational Support

• Perform basic troubleshooting and documented repairs on servers and IT equipment.
• Support fiber and connectivity troubleshooting activities when required.
• Execute rack relocations and equipment movements across company locations when necessary.
• Provide support during infrastructure incidents, maintenance windows, and emergency situations.

Planning and Coordination

• Support planning and coordination of infrastructure deployments and equipment installations.
• Maintain accurate documentation related to racks, cabling, assets, and deployments.
• Assist with infrastructure capacity planning and operational improvements across EdgeUno data center locations.

Requirements

• Hands on experience in data center operations or infrastructure environments.
• Experience with incident response, troubleshooting, and operational problem solving.
• Understanding of data center infrastructure fundamentals, including power, cooling, cabling, and physical security.
• Ability to work in a hands on environment handling servers, cabling, and hardware equipment.
• Availability to support a 24x7 infrastructure environment when operational needs arise.
• Willingness to travel occasionally between EdgeUno locations.
• English proficiency, B2 level minimum.

Nice to Have

• Basic Linux server administration.
• Scripting or automation experience (PowerShell, Python, or similar).
• Experience with network monitoring tools.
• Basic networking knowledge and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure deployments.
• Experience with fiber connectivity troubleshooting and OTDR analysis.
• Relevant industry certifications, such as CCNA, AWS, Google Cloud, or similar.
