Role Overview

We’re looking for a talented Mid-to-Senior Java Developer to join our Middleware team. This role is central to developing and maintaining our Java-based middleware layer, built on Spring Boot. You'll collaborate closely with Cloud, Mobile, and Web application teams, ensuring robust integration with Vorwerk’s connected IoT robotic devices. Your work will directly enhance the stability, scalability, and flexibility of our AWS-hosted middleware platform, enabling smooth and reliable user experiences for customers worldwide.

What You'll Do

• Maintain, enhance, and expand existing middleware solutions built on Java/Spring Boot.
• Collaborate closely with developers from other areas (Cloud, Mobile) to ensure robust integration and high-quality APIs.
• Improve overall architecture, scalability, and maintainability of the middleware layer.
• Participate actively in solution design, providing your expertise to drive sound technical decisions.
• Assist in diagnosing and resolving performance issues and application bottlenecks.

Who We're Looking For

• Mid-Senior level experience as a Java developer, specifically within middleware or backend roles.
• Solid expertise in Java and proven experience with frameworks like Spring Boot or similar technologies (e.g., Quarkus, Micronaut).
• Familiarity with event-driven systems and microservice architectures.
• Experience with relational databases (we use PostgreSQL) and comfortable designing efficient database schemas and queries.
• Proven experience building REST APIs and integrations with complex backend systems.
• Proactive mindset, comfortable collaborating cross-functionally and taking ownership of tasks.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, patterns, and best practices.
• Fluent in English; excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Bonus Points (optional but nice-to-have):

• Familiarity or interest in IoT devices or robotics.
• Experience developing middleware specifically tailored for mobile applications (handling push notifications, mobile-specific APIs, offline scenarios, etc.).
• Prior experience deploying applications in AWS.
• Experience with Terraform and basic DevOps practices (CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code).
• Familiarity with technologies such as Redis, DynamoDB, or Kinesis.
• Exposure to Elixir or other functional programming languages (to interface smoothly with the existing Cloud team).
