Job summary

Saipem Offshore Construction is seeking a Welding Engineer to support offshore and onshore pipeline projects in Italy. You will coordinate welding activities, review WPQ/WPS/PQR, and participate in qualifications, with travel to sites as needed.

The role requires a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering and 3–5 years’ oil & gas welding experience; IWE certification is a plus. Hybrid working options and travel opportunities are available.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a mechanical/chemical/materials engineering field.
• 3-5 years’ experience as a Welding Engineer in Oil & Gas.
• International Welding Engineer (IWE) certificate is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide welding support to engineering disciplines to meet contractual and updated technical criteria.
• Evaluate tender documents and requirements related to metallic materials and fabrication processes.
• Prepare and issue preliminary welding documents for projects or bids.
• Participate in Welding Procedure Qualifications (WPQ) for pipelines and related projects.
• Ensure welding equipment readiness on vessels/yards before installation/production.
• Support welder qualifications on vessels or on-site offshore missions.
• Monitor KPIs, analyze deviations, and report findings.
• Review WPS/PQR, welding repair and heat treatment procedures, and prepare qualification matrices.

Saipem Offshore Construction (SOC) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Saipem S.p.A. SOC brings together all operational activities in Italy related to fabrication, technical services, maintenance, and logistics, providing essential support for the execution of offshore construction and offshore wind projects.

Purpose of the position: As Welding Engineer, you will respond to the Offshore Pipeline Welding Management and be part of the Asset Based Services Business Line.

How can you support us? Here below your responsibilities:

• Provide Welding support to all engineering disciplines to comply with contractual requirements and with the updated technological criteria;
• Evaluate Client/End User tender documents and requirements relevant to metallic materials and associated fabrication process;
• Prepare and issue preliminary Welding Documents for assigned project or bids;
• Participate to Welding Procedure Qualifications in our Pipeline Technologies Center Located in Ploiesti – Romania – Several missions per year .
• Ensure the readiness of the welding equipment on vessels/yards prior the start of the installation/production
• Participate to the welder qualifications onboard vessels or on site – offshore missions.
• Follow up of the KPIs (Key Performance Indicator), analyze and explain any deviation.
• Review welding documents (WPS/PQR), welding repair and heat treatment procedures issued by Manufacturer/Vendor and prepare welding qualification matrix and pWPS for piping/pipeline direct hiring construction welds;
• Define and witness welding trial test for special materials;

What are we looking for?

Education: Master's Degree in Mechanical, Chimical, Materials Engineering

Experience: 3-5 years’ experience as a Welding Engineer in the Oil&Gas industry

Technical Skills: it is appreciated the International Welding Engineer (IWE) Certificate

IT Skills: good skills in using the main computer software programs
