Job summary

FAO in Rome seeks a Senior Animal Health Officer to lead One Health and AMR coordination across animal health and production sectors. You will provide technical leadership, oversee disease prevention and antimicrobial resistance programmes, and support policy dialogue with FAO Member Countries and regional offices.

The role requires advanced veterinary or life sciences expertise, a decade of relevant international experience, and fluency in English with knowledge of another FAO official

Qualifications

• Advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in biology, life sciences, veterinary medicine, or a related field.
• Ten years of relevant experience in animal health and production, public health, disease prevention and management, including regulatory aspects, standard setting, medical microbiology or epidemiology, with demonstrated One Health and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) programmes at international level.
• Working knowledge (proficiency level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (level B) of another FAO official language.

Responsibilities

• Plans, leads and coordinates multidisciplinary teams, cross-divisional committees, and working groups; provides technical leadership and secretariat services.
• Analyses global and country requirements to inform FAO Strategic Framework, programmes, budgets and resourcing.
• Implements and monitors programmes involving evidence-based strategies, tools, monitoring and reporting frameworks.
• Conducts research and analysis to support technical standards, international instruments, and policy advisory services.
• Provides technical and policy advice to Members and decentralized offices on One Health and AMR strategies.
