Job summary

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Rome, Italy, seeks a Senior Animal Health Officer to lead One Health and AMR coordination. This staff position reports to the NSA division and focuses on multisectoral strategies, policy dialogue, and international collaboration.

The role involves directing expert networks, supporting national action plans on AMR, and partnering with global entities to advance animal health and public health outcomes for two-year fixed-term appointments

Qualifications

• Advanced university degree in biology, life sciences, veterinary medicine or related field.
• Ten years of relevant experience in animal health and AMR programmes at international level.
• Working knowledge of English and another FAO official language.
• Experience coordinating One Health and AMR initiatives across multiple organizations.
• Experience organizing high-level international meetings and policy dialogue.
• Knowledge of One Health/JPA, AMR global frameworks and surveillance systems.
• Experience supporting AMR surveillance and data management in agrifood contexts.
• Ability to edit and write technical content for publications.

Responsibilities

• Plans and leads multidisciplinary teams within One Health and AMR programmes.
• Analyzes global and country needs to inform FAO strategic frameworks and budgets.
• Coordinates technical guidance and support to countries and decentralized offices.
• Represents FAO in international meetings and builds partnerships.
• Leads development of investment cases and resource mobilization for AMR initiatives.
