Brightsmith is seeking a Senior Business Developer to join the Italian team in Milan. You will drive origination of onshore wind and solar PV projects, evaluate acquisitions from greenfield to closing, and collaborate with M&A, Legal, Financing and EPC teams across Italy and internationally.

The role offers significant autonomy to influence project origination, structuring, and delivery through to construction, with travel mainly within Italy and fluent Italian and English required.

• MSc in Engineering, Economics, Finance or related discipline.
• Proven experience in renewable energy development.
• 4–5 years hands-on in project valuation, M&A or structuring.
• Strong knowledge of the Italian renewable energy market.

Senior Business Developer | Renewable Energy | Milan, Italy

About the role

Brightsmith are partnering with a leading international IPP with the appointment of a Senior Business Developer to join their growing Italian team, based in Milan.

This is a key role within the Italian development team, focused on expanding the company's onshore wind and solar PV portfolio. You will have exposure across the full project lifecycle, working closely with M&A, Legal, Financing and EPC teams both in Italy and internationally.

The role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to influence how projects are originated, acquired, structured and brought through to construction.

Key responsibilities:

• Identify and originate new onshore wind and solar PV opportunities across Italy
• Screen and evaluate the acquisition of attractive renewable energy projects at various stages of development - from greenfield to shovel-ready assets
• Assess technical, regulatory and commercial viability and prepare investment analyses
• Support the preparation of business plans with the M&A, Financing and EPC departments
• Support NBO and BO processes through to signing and closing
• Prepare investment memoranda and materials supporting senior/board-level investment decisions
• Support the negotiation of acquisition agreements alongside the Legal team
• Take ownership of projects post-permitting through to FID and construction
• Coordinate secondary permitting, engineering studies, detailed design and EPC tendering
• Work closely with Financing and EPC teams throughout the financial close, construction and COD processes

The ideal profile

We're looking for someone who combines renewable energy development expertise with strong commercial and deal-making capabilities.

You should have:

• An MSc in Engineering, Economics, Finance or a related discipline
• Proven experience within the renewable energy sector
• 4–5 years' hands-on experience in project valuation, M&A and/or structuring
• Strong knowledge of the Italian renewable energy market
• Experience with onshore wind and/or solar PV
• Strong negotiation, analytical and stakeholder-management skills
• Fluent Italian and English
• The ability to work effectively across Italian and international teams
• Willingness to travel frequently, primarily within Italy
