Prysmian is seeking a Materials Engineer in Milan with a focus on materials characterization, development, and optimization for cable technologies. You will support experiments, data analysis, and reporting to drive material performance and reliability across products.

The role requires a degree in polymer or materials science with 3–5 years of hands-on experience in characterization and microscopy, plus a collaborative, problem-solving mindset for a hybrid work environment.

• Bachelor's degree in Polymer Science or Materials Science.
• 3–5 years of experience in polymer materials characterization and microscopy.
• Experience with extrusion or injection molding is a nice to have.
• Solid understanding of polymer physics, chemistry, and structure-property relationships.

We are seeking a Materials Engineer with expertise in materials characterization and product development . The successful candidate will support the characterization, development, and optimization of cable and accessories technologies.

In this role, you will:

• Perform advanced polymer morphological characterization to identify dispersion and distribution of polymeric and inorganic phases.
• Correlate polymer structure with chemical‑physical, rheological, and electrical properties of compounds.
• Conduct comparative analyses to support material development, troubleshooting, and product optimization.
• Analyze, interpret, and model complex multi‑technique datasets.
• Generate clear technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for R\&D and engineering teams.
• Actively support development of optimized material formulations and manufacturing processes for cable products.

You are the right fit if you have/are:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Polymer Science or Materials Science
• Proven experience in polymer materials characterization and microscopy, between 3/5 years of experience overall
• Experience with extrusion or injection molding processes is a nice to have
• Solid understanding of polymer physics, chemistry, and structure-property relationships
• Strong communication & interpersonal skills
• Decision making attitude, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Strong teamwork skills, results oriented and ambitious mindset

What we offer

Type of contract: Permanent

Location: Milan, Hybrid

Applicable Collective Agreement : CCNL Gomma, Plastica, Cavi elettrici e affini.

Job Level/Category: ( Impiegato) in line with the applicable collective agreement.

Gross annual salary no less than: € 38.000,00

The position is eligible for an individual or collective variable incentive based on the achievement of predetermined performance objectives.
