Job summary

ABB is looking for a leader to head the Industrial Engineering function in Italy, reporting to the Industrial Engineering Manager. The role oversees two streams—Internal Process Management and Special Process Development—driving innovation, ROI and continuous improvement across production lines.

You will coach a team of Production Engineering Specialists, monitor KPI performance, and translate complex technical concepts into actionable plans while ensuring alignment with Industry 5.0 trends.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Automation Engineering, or equivalent; master degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in process engineering, production management or manufacturing optimization.
  • Experience with process design tools, simulation software, and digital tools for production optimization (PLM, ERP, IoT).
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing best practices, automation technologies and Industry 5.0 principles.
  • Proven leadership of technical teams and delivery within budget and timeline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a strategic Industrial Engineering team across Internal Process Management and Special Process Development.
  • Oversee and quantify improvements in OEE, efficiency and ROI through feasibility analysis and implementation tracking.
  • Direct development of automated and semi-automated solutions for special processes, ensuring innovation and budget adherence.
  • Champion feasibility studies, write technical specs and drive advanced robotics and equipment enhancements.

You will drive technological innovation, manage resources strategically, and ensure continuous technological evolution of our production lines.Work model for the role is: #LI-Onsite.In this role, you’ll help run what runs the world by taking on meaningful work that drives real impact, as you will be accountable for:Lead and manage a team of Production Engineering Specialists, providing coaching, development, and performance management while fostering innovation and continuous improvement mindset.Direct the Internal Processes stream: oversee technological improvements initiatives, prioritize investments, monitor OEE and efficiency KPIs, and ensure optimal return on investment through feasibility analysis and implementation tracking.Direct the Special Processes stream: drive development of advanced automated and semi-automated solutions for special production processes (Protection and Energy Management), ensuring technological innovation, budget compliance, and economic sustainability.Champion innovative engineering solutions by leading feasibility studies, developing technical specifications, implementing cutting-edge equipment, advanced robotics solutions and continuously enhancing production line technological capabilities.Qualifications for the roleDegree in Mechanical/Industrial/Automation Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline; master degree preferred.Minimum 8+ years of experience in process engineering, production management, or manufacturing/quality optimization within industrial/electromechanical sectors.Proven expertise with process design tools, manufacturing simulation software, and digital tools for production optimization (PLM, ERP systems, IoT monitoring).Strong understanding of manufacturing best practices, automation technologies, and current industry 5.0 standards with focus on technological innovation and continuous improvement, also exploiting opportunities offered by Physical AI trends.Demonstrated leadership capability managing technical teams, with track record of driving process improvements, innovation initiatives, and project delivery within budget and timeline constraints.Fluent in Italian and English (both written and spoken); additional languages advantageous.Strategic thinking, problem-solving excellence, innovation mindset, stakeholder management, and ability to translate technical complexity into actionable solutions.Compensation PackageAs part of our commitment to transparency, we want to share the compensation details for this position:Applicable CBA: MetalmeccanicoMinimum annual salary: € 53.000,00Variable Pay: AIP target 10% + Eligible for Company Productivity BonusThe offer will be tailored based on your role location, experience, skills and qualifications, internal market positioning and alignment with ABB internal standards.Benefits as per policyFlexible working hours and a strong focus on work-life integration and Wellbeing support for employees and their families.
