Danieli is seeking a Senior Process Technologist to join the HQ Process Engineering Office. The role focuses on advancing process models, collaborating with the automation team, and supporting engineering and commissioning for new steel production plants.

Ideal candidates have strong physics and automation backgrounds, with a drive for innovation and continuous skill development. International travel and long commissioning stays are expected.

Competenze

• Degree in engineering/technical field (e.g., metallurgy, materials, mechanics).
• At least 5 years of experience in the steel industry.
• At least 3 years of experience in steel processing studies and process simulation.
• Knowledge of main mechanical processes and fluent English.
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel and experience with databases.
• Proficient in C, C++, Python or similar for model development.
• Experience with FEM (Abaqus) is desirable.

We are currently reinforcing our Danieli Wean United Team and we are looking for a Process Technologist - Senior to join the HQ Process Engineering Office. The role involves further developing our process models, working in close collaboration with the automation team, and supporting the engineering and commissioning phases of new steel production plants. We are seeking for people with strong background in physics and automation, a strong focus on innovation, and the motivation to continuously develop their skills and potential.

Responsibilities

The tasks and responsibilities shall be considered within the perimeter of the hot rolling technology for the flat steel production, whether of hot rolled coils or hot rolled plates, and shall focus on:

• Data analysis: analyzing and optimizing the process parameters, ensuring the full and effective operation of Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems;
• Modeling: using and further develop process simulations and mathematical models, meant for on-line control systems, as well as off-line calculations for sizing plants during the Sales stage;
• Process guidelines: prepare and review process descriptions and requireddocumentation to support the design stage of mechanical, electrical and automation departments, including process control logics, models and operating guidelines;
• Commissioning site: act as the key interface between Process Engineering and Level 1 / Level 2 automation teams during cold tests, hot commissioning, trial rolling, and ramp‑up phases; define process rules to be implemented in the automation system, troubleshoot process-related issues identifying root causes in relation to process, automation logics, or model deviations, and implementing corrective actions jointly with L1/L2 specialists; monitor performances;
• Performance guarantee tests: lead the performance guarantee testing, both remotely and on site; coordinate and technically guide the team of process and automation specialists, ensuring alignment on commissioning priorities, critical process‑automation interfaces, operational safety, and performance targets;
• Post-commissioning tasks: collect and analyze operational data from running plants, validate andreconcile process and automation parameters, and keep track of lessons learnt;
• R&D: Benchmark alternative technologies based on operational and automation performances, identifying improvements and developments in process control, model‑based automation; propose patents to protect Danieli proprietary solutions.

Technical Requirements

• Degree in engineering/technical field (e.g. metallurgy, materials, mechanics);
• At least 5 years of experience in the steel industry;
• At least 3 years of experience in steel processing studies, process simulation and project development;
• Knowledge of the main mechanical processes;
• Excellent knowledge of English;
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel;
• Proficient in working with databases;
• Proficient with C, C++, Python, or other programming language used to develop models;
• Experience with FEM (Abaqus) is desirable.
