Job summary

ABB E-mobility is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to lead the evolution of its data platform and scale data capabilities across the organization. You will define technical foundations, governance, and engineering practices to enable domain teams to build trusted data products while accelerating data-driven decision making and AI adoption.

You will lead self-service platform evolution, governance, and engineering accelerators, ensuring security, scalability, and cost efficiency as adoption

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering or related disciplines with technical leadership responsibilities.
• Deep expertise in Azure Databricks and related data platform technologies.
• Strong software engineering skills in Python and SQL; production-grade data pipelines.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and platform automation (Terraform, CI/CD).
• Knowledge of data governance, security and access management in Azure/Databricks.
• Experience with data integration patterns (batch, API, streaming) at scale.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve a self-service data platform for domain teams with scalable, secure, and easy-to-use data products.
• Provide technical leadership across the data community and drive architecture decisions for interoperability and sustainability.
• Design and implement federated governance, data contracts, schema evolution, data quality, and security policies.
• Build accelerators, templates, CI/CD frameworks, and developer tooling to improve adoption and engineering practices.
• Own platform performance, reliability and cost optimization as adoption grows.
• Partner with IT/business stakeholders on strategic integration using the data platform as middleware.
• Act as a hands-on data engineering consultant to design ingestion patterns and data solutions.
• Drive AI-native engineering workflows with governance and human oversight.
