Job summary
NowPurchase is seeking a Technical Research professional in Kolkata to drive R&D in metal manufacturing. You will explore new materials, analyze literature, and collaborate with top institutes to develop Indian-market products for foundries.
The role requires 4–6 years in R&D related to metallurgy, materials, or foundry sectors, with strong analytical and communication skills and hands-on lab experience in materials characterization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or master's degree in metallurgical engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering or a related discipline.
- 4 to 6 years of experience in Research & Development, Product Development, Materials Research, Foundry, Steel, Ferro Alloys, Refractories, or related industries.
Responsibilities
- Research emerging raw materials, technologies, and manufacturing practices used in foundries globally.
- Read and analyze research papers, patents, conference proceedings, technical journals, and industry publications to identify new product opportunities.
- Collaborate with IITs, IISc, NITs, international universities, research laboratories, and industry organizations on technical projects and product development.
- Work with global suppliers and manufacturers to develop and customize new products for the Indian market.
- Support laboratory evaluations, industrial trials, product validation, and technical troubleshooting.
- Prepare technical reports, literature reviews, product specifications, trial protocols, and technical documentation.
- Track global technology trends and recommend new product categories for commercialization.
- Coordinate with internal Category Development, Procurement, Sales, and Operations teams during product development and launch.

- 4 to 6 years of experience in Research & Development, Product Development, Materials Research, Foundry, Steel, Ferro Alloys, Refractories, or related industries.
- Strong understanding of metallurgy and materials science.
- Ability to understand and interpret scientific literature and patents.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong curiosity and willingness to learn.
- Ability to interact with professors, researchers, laboratories, suppliers, and customers.
- Familiarity with characterization techniques such as XRF, XRD, SEM, ICP-OES, Optical Microscopy, Carbon/Sulfur Analysis, and Thermal Analysis will be an added advantage, but not necessary.
We are looking for someone who enjoys solving difficult engineering problems, is passionate about research, and wants to build products that do not yet exist. The ideal candidate should be equally comfortable reading scientific literature, engaging with research institutions, collaborating with global suppliers, and translating technical innovation into commercially viable products for the foundry industry.
