Job summary

EXL is seeking a Training Program Manager to design and implement surgical coding and audit training. You will craft curricula aligned with CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS guidelines, and lead deliveries across classroom, virtual, and blended formats.

The role emphasizes HIPAA compliance, QA collaboration, and ongoing program refinement. You will partner with SMEs and audit teams to identify skill gaps, monitor effectiveness, and drive performance improvements while maintaining detailed training

Qualifications

  • Years of experience in coding auditing and provider coding.
  • 2+ years in a training role.
  • CPC/CCS certification mandatory.
  • Strong knowledge of multispecialty surgery coding and HCPCS.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Experience in strategic management.
  • Experience conducting new hire trainings.
  • Experience in project-specific training and QA/training teams.
  • Experience training 50–100 coding employees.
  • Strong PC skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, internet-based tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement training programs for surgery coding and audits.
  • Conduct needs analyses to identify skill gaps and plan training.
  • Create training modules, materials, and presentations reflecting CPT/ICD-10-CM/HCPCS.
  • Ensure materials reflect latest coding standards and compliance rules.
  • Deliver training sessions (classroom, virtual, blended) for new hires and staff.
  • Provide hands-on exercises, case studies, and assessments to gauge learning.
  • Offer mentoring and ongoing support to coding professionals.
  • Collaborate with SMEs, QA, and Compliance for accuracy of materials.
  • Monitor training effectiveness with assessments and metrics.
  • Update materials to reflect process improvements and audit trends.
  • Ensure HIPAA/OIG compliance and confidentiality in training.
  • Promote coding accuracy and ethical practices throughout training.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports on training outcomes.
  • Contribute to benchmarks and continuous learning strategies.

Short Description
Training Program Management
  • Design, develop, and implement training strategies and programs tailored to surgery coding and coding audit teams.
  • Conduct strategic needs analyses to identify skill gaps and develop training plans that address these gaps effectively.
  • Develop comprehensive training modules, presentations, and learning materials based on current procedural terminology (CPT), ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
  • Ensure training materials and processes reflect the latest updates in medical coding standards, payer requirements, and compliance regulations.
Training Delivery & Facilitation
  • Conduct training sessions (classroom, virtual, or blended) for new hires, existing staff, and auditors on surgery coding concepts, audit standards, and best practices.
  • Provide hands‑on coding exercises, case studies, and assessments to reinforce learning and evaluate participant understanding.
  • Offer ongoing support, mentoring, and guidance to coding professionals to enhance accuracy and productivity.
Curriculum Development & Evaluation
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Quality Auditors, and Compliance Teams to ensure accuracy and relevance of training materials.
  • Monitor training effectiveness through assessments, performance metrics, and feedback surveys.
  • Update and refine training materials periodically to reflect process improvements, audit trends, and regulatory changes.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure that all training initiatives comply with HIPAA, OIG, and organizational confidentiality standards.
  • Promote coding accuracy, ethical practices, and adherence to compliance guidelines throughout the training process.
  • Partner with audit teams to identify common error trends and develop targeted training to mitigate these issues.
Performance & Reporting
  • Maintain detailed records of training activities, participation, completion rates, and performance outcomes.
  • Prepare regular reports and presentations for management on training effectiveness, skill development, and performance improvements.
  • Contribute to the establishment of performance benchmarks and continuous learning strategies for coding teams.
