Job summary

Aster DM Healthcare is seeking a seasoned Supply Chain Manager to oversee end-to-end SCM for its hospital network. The role involves managing procurement, inventory, vendor relations and strategic sourcing to ensure uninterrupted supply of medical and non-medical items across units.

The candidate will drive cost optimization, demand planning and analytics using ERP systems, while standardizing processes and policies across hospitals. Prior healthcare SCM experience is highly valued.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Logistics, Operations, Commerce or related field is required.
  • MBA/PGDM in Supply Chain, Operations, Procurement or Materials Management is preferred.
  • Experience in hospital/healthcare SCM is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage SCM activities across multiple hospital units.
  • Develop and implement corporate SCM policies, SOPs and processes.
  • Coordinate with hospital units, clinical departments, finance, pharmacy, operations and administration.
  • Manage procurement of medical consumables, surgical items, implants, equipment and other hospital requirements.
  • Develop sourcing strategies based on demand, consumption, criticality and cost.
  • Negotiate with suppliers for pricing, payment terms, service levels and contracts.
  • Drive centralized procurement and group-level purchasing where beneficial.
  • Monitor inventory levels, stock coverage and turn across units.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction through negotiation and standardization.
  • Analyze consumption patterns and develop contingency supplier plans.

Job description

To manage and optimize the organization's end-to-end supply chain operations across hospitals, ensuring uninterrupted availability of medical, surgical, pharmaceutical, consumable, non-medical and other critical supplies at the right quality, quantity, cost and time.

The role will support corporate SCM strategy, procurement efficiency, inventory optimization, vendor management, cost reduction and standardization across hospital units.

Key Responsibilities
1. Corporate SCM Operations
  • Manage and monitor SCM activities across multiple hospital units.
  • Develop and implement corporate SCM policies, SOPs and processes.
  • Ensure standardization of procurement, inventory and material management practices.
  • Monitor availability of critical medical and non-medical materials and prevent stock-outs.
  • Coordinate with hospital units, clinical departments, finance, pharmacy, operations and administration.
2. Procurement & Strategic Sourcing
  • Manage procurement of medical consumables, surgical items, implants, equipment, general consumables and other hospital requirements.
  • Develop sourcing strategies based on demand, consumption, criticality and cost.
  • Negotiate with suppliers for pricing, payment terms, service levels and contracts.
  • Drive centralized procurement and group-level purchasing wherever commercially beneficial.
  • Conduct RFQs/RFPs, comparative statements and commercial evaluations.
  • Support annual rate contracts and long-term supplier agreements.
3. Vendor Management
  • Identify, evaluate and develop reliable suppliers.
  • Maintain vendor performance scorecards covering quality, delivery, pricing and service.
  • Conduct periodic vendor reviews and negotiations.
  • Resolve supplier-related quality, delivery and commercial issues.
  • Develop alternate sources for critical and high-risk items.
4. Inventory Management
  • Monitor inventory levels, stock coverage, ageing and inventory turns across units.
  • Establish appropriate min/max, reorder and safety-stock levels.
  • Reduce excess, slow-moving and non-moving inventory.
  • Improve inventory accuracy through regular cycle counts and physical verification.
  • Monitor expiry and near-expiry materials and implement appropriate controls.
5. Cost Optimization
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction through negotiation, standardization, alternate sourcing and volume consolidation.
  • Benchmark prices across hospitals, suppliers and markets.
  • Analyze consumption patterns and identify abnormal or high-cost usage.
  • Drive value analysis and cost-saving initiatives without compromising patient care or quality.
6. Demand Planning & Supply Continuity
  • Analyze historical consumption and forecast future requirements.
  • Coordinate with hospital units for monthly/annual demand planning.
  • Ensure adequate availability of critical and essential materials.
  • Develop contingency and alternate-supplier plans for critical items.
7. Systems, MIS & Analytics
  • Monitor SCM KPIs through ERP/SAP/Oracle or other hospital SCM systems.
  • Prepare corporate SCM dashboards and management reports.
  • Track purchase price variance, savings, inventory days, stock-outs, vendor performance and procurement cycle time.
  • Use data analytics to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
8. Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with organizational policies and approval matrices.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation, audit trails and vendor records.
  • Support internal, statutory and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare quality and regulatory requirements.
9. Team Management
  • Guide and mentor procurement, stores and SCM teams.
  • Set performance objectives and monitor team productivity.
  • Develop team capabilities in negotiation, procurement, inventory management and analytics.
  • Promote process discipline and continuous improvement.
