Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering may also be considered for candidates with strong relevant site experience.
Experience
- 5–12 years of relevant experience in structural steel fabrication, heavy lifting, assembly and erection.
- Experience in Material Handling Plant (MHP), RMHS, CHP or comparable heavy industrial projects is preferred.
Role Overview
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the fabrication and erection of heavy structural steel for a large Material Handling Plant.
The role will involve execution of structures such as conveyor galleries, technological structures, plant buildings, pipe racks, platforms, hoppers, chutes, ducts, equipment-support structures, crane girders, staircases and access systems.
The candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe and timely execution while maintaining quality, alignment, productivity and construction standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise structural steel fabrication, trial assembly, assembly, lifting and erection activities.
- Coordinate site erection activities including alignment, bolting, welding and grouting interfaces.
- Review and interpret GA, fabrication, connection and erection drawings before execution.
- Check foundations, pedestal levels, anchor bolts, access, crane standing areas and temporary supports before erection.
- Monitor fabrication activities such as:
- Cutting
- Drilling
- Fit-up
- Welding
- Dimensional inspection
- Surface preparation and painting
- Member identification and dispatch
- Supervise erection of columns, beams, trusses, girders, platforms, conveyor galleries, hoppers, chutes, ducts, pipe racks and equipment-support structures.
- Ensure proper line, level, plumbness, orientation, alignment and bolt tightening.
- Coordinate with Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Piping, QA/QC, Safety and Commissioning teams.
- Review MTCs, WPS/PQR, NDT reports, ITPs, inspection requests and NCRs.
- Monitor contractor manpower, equipment, material availability and productivity.
- Track planned vs. actual structural steel tonnage and maintain daily/weekly/monthly progress reports.
- Identify construction delays, material constraints, quality issues and erection risks and take corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with safety requirements related to:
- Heavy lifting
- Crane operations
- Work at height
- Temporary stability
- Dropped-object prevention
- Support measurement, billing, material reconciliation, punch-point closure, mechanical completion and handover.

Preferred Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should be a Mechanical Engineer with 8–12 years of hands-on site execution experience in heavy structural steel fabrication and erection.
Candidates from Material Handling Plants, RMHS, CHP, steel plants, power plants, cement plants, mining or other heavy industrial projects will be preferred.
The candidate should be capable of independently handling structural fabrication/erection activities, contractor coordination, heavy lifting, alignment, quality and safety requirements, progress monitoring and site execution.
