We are hiring Mechanical Engineers / Sr Mechanical Engineers for an industrial client at a site in Gadchiroli district, approximately 160 km from Gadchiroli city. If you are ready to relocate to above location then only apply.
Experience:
8 to 12 years of relevant experience in fabrication, assembly, heavy lifting, and erection of structural steel for Material Handling Plant or Comparable heavy industrial projects.
Role Purpose
The Mechanical Engineer will supervise and coordinate fabrication and erection of heavy structural-steel systems for steel manufacturing facilities, including technological structures, plant buildings, pipe racks, platforms, galleries, hoppers, chutes, ducts, equipment-support structures, crane girders, stairways, and access systems. The role is responsible for construction readiness, contractor performance, safe lifting and erection, dimensional compliance, welding quality, alignment, progress control, interface coordination, and timely handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise shop and site fabrication, trial assembly, delivery sequencing, laydown, assembly, lifting, erection, alignment, bolting, welding, grouting interfaces, and final acceptance of heavy structural steel.
- Review approved-for-construction drawings, general arrangements, fabrication drawings, connection details, bill of materials, erection schemes, method statements, inspection and test plans, lifting plans, and work permits before execution.
- Verify construction readiness, including foundations, pedestal levels, anchor-bolt location and projection, access, crane standing area, temporary supports, scaffolding, manpower, tools, lifting tackles, and material availability.
- Monitor cutting, drilling, fit-up, welding, distortion control, dimensional checks, trial fit-up, surface preparation, painting or coating, member identification, and dispatch as per approved drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate safe erection sequences for large columns, trusses, girders, modules, platforms, ducts, hoppers, galleries, pipe racks, crane-support structures, and equipment-support frames.
- Check line, level, plumbness, orientation, camber, member fit-up, bolt installation and tightening, weld completion, temporary stability, and final structural alignment.
- Coordinate with civil, structural design, mechanical equipment, piping, electrical, instrumentation, refractory, safety, quality, commissioning, and operations teams to resolve interfaces and clashes.
- Review material test certificates, welding procedure and performance qualifications, NDT reports, calibration records, coating records, inspection requests, non-conformance reports, and punch lists.
- Monitor contractor productivity, planned versus actual tonnage, manpower and equipment utilisation, work-front availability, material reconciliation, and daily, weekly, and monthly progress.
- Identify delays, unsafe conditions, quality deviations, drawing or material constraints, and erection risks; implement corrective actions, recovery measures, and escalation.
- Enforce controls for heavy lifting, work at height, hot work, crane operations, rigging, temporary stability, dropped-object prevention, simultaneous operations, housekeeping, and permit-to-work compliance.
- Support joint measurements, bill verification, as-built documentation, punch closure, mechanical completion, and handover to commissioning and plant operations.
Preferred Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate should be a Mechanical Engineering professional with 812 years of proven execution experience in heavy structural-steel fabrication and erection for material handling or similar large industrial facilities. The candidate should be capable of independently reviewing construction readiness, supervising contractors, resolving fabrication and erection issues, controlling safety and quality risks, tracking tonnage and progress, coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces, and delivering structurally complete work fronts for commissioning and handover.
