Job summary

Thompsons Hr Consulting in India is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to develop concepts and detailed designs for special purpose machines. You will create 3D models, perform tolerance analysis, and ensure designs meet safety and ergonomic standards.

You will coordinate with production, support testing and commissioning, and contribute to continuous improvement through new technologies and design templates. Strong CAD skills and hands-on problem-solving are essential.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of machine design principles, mechanisms, and kinematics.
• Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Understanding of pneumatic, hydraulic, and motion control systems.
• Basic knowledge of electrical and PLC systems for integration understanding.

• Flexibility to provide extended project support, including overtime or travel as needed.

Responsibilities

Job description

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

1. 1. Concept and Design Development
   • Understand customer requirements, product specifications, and process needs.
   • Develop conceptual designs, 3D models, and layouts for special purpose machines.
   • Conduct design feasibility studies and mechanism analysis.
   • Select suitable motion systems (mechanical, pneumatic, or hydraulic).
   • Ensure designs meet electrical, safety, ergonomic, and functional standards.
2. 2. Detailed Engineering and Documentation
   • Create 3D models and 2D manufacturing drawings using CAD tools (SolidWorks / AutoCAD).
   • Prepare detailed assembly drawings, part drawings, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
   • Perform tolerance analysis and ensure manufacturability of components.
   • Document all design-related technical data, calculations, and revisions.
3. 3. Machine Manufacturing and Assembly Support
   • Coordinate with the production and assembly teams during fabrication, machining, and assembly stages.
   • Provide technical support during machine building, testing, and debugging.
   • Identify and resolve design issues or assembly mismatches.
   • Support suppliers and vendors in understanding technical specifications.
4. 4. Testing, Validation, and Commissioning
   • Participate in machine trials, functional testing, and performance validation.
   • Analyze results, identify improvement areas, and implement design modifications.
   • Support commissioning at the client site if required.
5. 5. Continuous Improvement and Innovation
   • Research and implement new technologies, materials, and mechanisms to enhance performance.
   • Contribute to standardization of machine elements and design templates.
   • Work towards cost reduction, reliability improvement, and cycle time optimization.

Required Skills and Competencies:
