Job summary

Job Description:

The Soft Skills Trainer will prepare learners for employment by strengthening their communication, confidence, workplace behaviour, interpersonal effectiveness and career-readiness skills. The role involves activity-based training, learner assessment, individual mentoring, placement preparation and coordination with training and placement teams.

Key Responsibilities
Training Delivery
  • Deliver classroom, virtual and blended soft-skills training according to the approved curriculum and session plans.
  • Facilitate training in areas such as:
    • Verbal and written communication
    • Spoken English and workplace vocabulary
    • Listening and presentation skills
    • Interpersonal communication and teamwork
    • Confidence-building and self-awareness
    • Time management and goal-setting
    • Problem-solving and decision-making
    • Workplace etiquette and professional conduct
    • Grooming, hygiene and body language
    • Customer service and conflict resolution
    • Digital communication and online meeting etiquette
    • Diversity, inclusion and prevention of workplace harassment
  • Use role plays, group discussions, presentations, games, case studies and simulations.
  • Adapt training methods to suit learners with different educational, linguistic and social backgrounds.
  • Integrate employability skills with the learners’ technical or vocational training.
  • Provide remedial support to learners requiring additional assistance.
Employability and Placement Preparation
  • Train learners in resume writing, job applications and professional profile development.
  • Prepare learners for interviews, group discussions, aptitude assessments and workplace interactions.
  • Conduct mock interviews and provide individual feedback.
  • Help learners understand job descriptions, salary structures and workplace expectations.
  • Build learners’ confidence in communicating with recruiters and employers.
  • Coordinate with trainers and placement executives to assess job readiness.
  • Support recruitment drives, employer interactions and pre-placement orientation sessions.
Learner Assessment and Mentoring
  • Assess learners’ communication, confidence, professional behaviour and workplace readiness.
  • Conduct diagnostic, formative and final assessments.
  • Maintain individual learner-development plans when required.
  • Provide timely, constructive and respectful feedback.
  • Counsel learners experiencing low confidence, communication barriers or adjustment concerns.
  • Identify learners requiring specialised support and refer them through the appropriate process.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality during counselling and mentoring.
Learner Engagement and Retention
  • Maintain an inclusive, respectful and participative learning environment.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, participation and behavioural progress.
  • Motivate learners to improve attendance and complete their training.
  • Coordinate with centre teams to support learners at risk of dropping out.
  • Promote teamwork, mutual respect, gender sensitivity and responsible conduct.
  • Address classroom concerns promptly and elevate safeguarding or serious behavioural matters.
Curriculum and Content Development
  • Develop or adapt lesson plans, activities, assessments and learner resources.
  • Contextualise training content for different industries and job roles.
  • Review employer feedback and update placement-preparation activities accordingly.
  • Use digital tools, videos and interactive resources to improve learner engagement.
  • Participate in trainer-development programmes and standardisation exercises.
  • Share effective practices and learning resources with other trainers.
Reporting and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate attendance, assessment and learner-progress records.
  • Document training delivery and curriculum completion.
  • Submit daily, weekly and monthly reports within prescribed timelines.
  • Maintain evidence required for programme reviews and audits.
  • Protect learner information and use it only for authorised programme purposes.
  • Provide learner-readiness inputs to the placement and project teams.
Key Performance Indicators
  • Training delivery and curriculum completion against the approved plan.
  • Learner attendance, participation and retention.
  • Improvement in communication and workplace-readiness assessments.
  • Learner performance in mock interviews and group discussions.
  • Placement-interview participation and selection outcomes.
  • Learner and employer feedback.
  • Timeliness and accuracy of reports.
  • Compliance with quality, safeguarding and documentation standards.
Educational Qualifications
  • Graduate or postgraduate degree in English, Education, Psychology, Human Resources, Social Work, Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • Certification in soft-skills training, communication, spoken English, Training of Trainers or instructional design is desirable.
Experience
  • Two to five years of experience in soft‑skills, communication, employability or behavioural training.
  • Experience preparing youth or entry‑level candidates for employment is preferred.
  • Experience working with learners from underserved or diverse backgrounds will be an advantage.
  • Exposure to vocational education, corporate training or skill‑development programmes is desirable.
Required Skills
  • Strong facilitation, presentation and classroom‑management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication in English and Hindi; knowledge of the local language is desirable.
  • Ability to simplify concepts and conduct activity‑based training.
  • Strong observation, feedback, mentoring and counselling abilities.
  • Good understanding of recruitment processes and workplace expectations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, virtual‑training platforms and digital presentation tools.
  • Ability to develop lesson plans, activities and assessments.
  • Confidence in managing diverse groups and encouraging learner participation.
