Job summary

Lauritz Knudsen Electrical and Automation, a unit of Schneider Electric India Pvt. Ltd., seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer with 6–10 years of experience to design low voltage switchgear assemblies and BOMs, while coordinating with sales, project managers, and engineers to ensure quality deliveries.

The role involves creating and revising CAD drawings, leading technical activities, and driving cost optimization and process improvements. Based in Coimbatore, India.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of IEC 61439 standard & Low voltage Panel Design & manufacturing.
• 2D CAD in Autocad & 3D modelling in Creo – sheet metal, Assembly, Drawings.
• Sheet metal processing & manufacturing.
• Excellent in verbal and written communication.
• Project management experience.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Interacts with Electrical Engineers, Customers, Project Managers, and Trainers for design solutions.
• Leads basic and detailed technical operational activities.
• Ability to plan and schedule technicians and engineers by skills.
• Understanding of market segments and customer applications for specs.
• Handles multiple flagship projects with quality and timelines.
• Hands-on knowledge of basic electrical principles related to power systems.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the Mechanical BOM for low voltage switchboards per requirements and guidelines.
• Propose and develop complex technical solutions with autonomy.
• Design custom assemblies for non-standard requirements.
• Ensure timely delivery of orders and projects with quality.
• Support sales during bidding and FAT with customers.
• Revise drawings and manage change control.
• Drive process improvements and cost optimization projects.
• Provide technical mentorship to the team for high-quality outputs.
• Undertake transformation projects to be future-ready.
• Upload and maintain BOMs in SAP; manage schedules for technicians and engineers.

Key Responsibilities / Deliverables:

• Prepare the Mechanical Bill of Material for the Low voltage switchboard as per the customer/Electrical requirements & R&D guideline.
• Autonomy to propose and develop complex technical solutions
• Design custom assemblies based on custom requirements, in case non-existence of standard assemblies.
• Completing all the orders and projects with expected QUALITY.
• Partner with sales during the bidding phase to support technical discussions and FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests) with customers
• Drawing revision, Control of drawings & manages the change Management
• Involving & driving the various process improvement activities
• Driving the Value Engineering & Cost optimisation projects to improve the margin
• Provide technical mentorship for the team to ensure high-quality engineering deliverables
• Undertake transformation projects to ensure future ready.
• Uploading and maintaining the BOMs in SAP
• Take up stretched assignments as and when needed.

Skills:

• Knowledge of IEC 61439 standard & Low voltage Panel Design & manufacturing.

• Able to handle multiple flagship projects individually with expected quality and timeline.
• Hands on knowledge in basic electrical core principles related to power system engineering
