Job summary

ACT Plast Paints in India seeks a Paint Shop Quality Engineer to monitor and bolster quality across the paint-shop process, from incoming parts to final inspection and dispatch.

You will establish standards, manage CAPA using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, and SPC, lead audits, support new program launches, and ensure calibration of measurement equipment, color matching, and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Monitor and control quality performance of painted components throughout the paint-shop process.
  • Establish and maintain quality standards, specifications, inspection criteria, and control plans.
  • Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements, internal quality standards, drawings, and automotive quality systems.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and CAPA using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto, and SPC.
  • Drive reduction of paint-shop rejection, rework, scrap, and customer complaints.
  • Develop and implement PFMEA, Control Plan, Process Flow, inspection standards, and reaction plans.
  • Conduct process audits, LPA, product audits, and quality system audits to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Support new product development and paint-program launches, including PPAP/APQP and customer approvals.
  • Ensure proper calibration and control of inspection/measurement equipment including paint-thickness gauges, gloss meters, color measurement, ovens, and monitoring systems.
  • Establish and maintain color matching and appearance standards with master samples and customer references.
  • Analyze quality data and prepare daily/weekly/monthly quality reports and KPIs.
  • Train and coach inspectors, operators, and junior engineers on defects, methods, standards, and controls.
  • Participate in customer and third-party audits and close findings timely.
  • Maintain quality documentation and revision of SOPs, work instructions, and check sheets.
  • Ensure corrective actions are horizontally deployed across products/processes.

Role & responsibilities
  • Monitor and control quality performance of plastic painted components throughout the paint-shop process, from incoming parts/materials through final inspection and dispatch.
  • Establish and maintain quality standards, specifications, inspection criteria, and control plans for plastic painting processes.
  • Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements, internal quality standards, drawings, and applicable automotive quality systems.
  • Monitor critical paint-shop parameters such as:
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) for internal, customer, and process-related quality issues using tools such as 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto, and SPC.
  • Drive reduction of paint-shop rejection, rework, scrap, and customer complaints through systematic quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and implement PFMEA, Control Plan, Process Flow, inspection standards, and reaction plans for new and existing products/processes.
  • Conduct process audits, layered process audits (LPA), product audits, and quality system audits to ensure adherence to defined standards.
  • Support new product development and new paint-program launches, including trials, process validation, first-off approval, PPAP/APQP activities, and customer approval.
  • Ensure proper calibration and control of inspection and measurement equipment, including paint-thickness gauges, gloss meters, color measurement equipment, ovens/temperature monitoring systems, and other quality instruments.
  • Establish and maintain color matching and appearance standards, including master samples, approved panels, and customer reference standards.
  • Analyze quality data and prepare daily/weekly/monthly quality reports, rejection trends, Pareto charts, FPY, PPM, COPQ, and other KPIs.
  • Train and coach quality inspectors, operators, and junior engineers on paint defects, inspection methods, quality standards, and process controls.
  • Participate in customer and third-party audits and ensure timely closure of audit findings and observations.
  • Maintain quality documentation and ensure timely revision and implementation of SOPs, work instructions, inspection standards, check sheets, and quality alerts.
  • Ensure that all corrective actions are horizontally deployed across relevant products/processes to prevent recurrence.
  • Support management in achieving zero-defect, customer satisfaction, cost-reduction, and continuous-improvement targets.
