POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Engineer Power Projects to lead electrical design and engineering activities for solar, wind, and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects. The role covers end-to-end electrical design for generation, storage, and grid-interconnection systems, with strong exposure to 33 kV and above systems, substations, transmission lines, and associated balance-of-system requirements. The position also supports tendering and proposal activities through technical reviews, BOQs/BOMs, design assumptions, cost inputs, and bid-stage clarifications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Power Project Design & Engineering
- Independently handle end-to-end electrical design for solar, wind, and BESS projects, preferably 10 MW and above.
- Develop and review electrical system designs for solar generation, wind generation, BESS, and associated grid-interconnection infrastructure.
- Optimize plant design for performance, reliability, constructability, safety, and applicable standards.
- Prepare project-specific design calculations, technical specifications, and engineering documents.
Drawings, Layouts & Documentation
- Prepare and review plant layouts, SLDs, three-line diagrams, generation and storage layouts, earthing layouts, lightning-protection layouts, cable-routing layouts, and equipment layouts.
- Prepare and review cable schedules and detailed BOMs/BOQs.
- Ensure timely closure of engineering deliverables in line with the Master Drawing List and project schedule.
- Review vendor drawings and technical documents for major electrical equipment.
Electrical Design & Equipment Selection
- Perform calculations for DC/AC cable sizing, voltage drop and power losses, earthing and lightning protection, LT/MV panel sizing, CT/PT selection, transformer sizing, HT switchgear selection, conductor sizing, and auxiliary power systems.
- Review and support engineering for 33 kV and above substations, switchyards, transformers, HT panels, C&R panels, transmission lines, and grid-interconnection systems.
Tendering & Proposal Support
- Review RFPs, RFQs, tenders, technical specifications, BOQs, and employer requirements for solar, wind, and BESS projects.
- Identify technical requirements, design criteria, exclusions, deviations, risks, and scope gaps during tender evaluation.
- Prepare technical BOQs/BOMs, equipment quantity estimates, design-based cost inputs, preliminary SLDs, plant layouts, equipment sizing, and design assumptions for bids.
- Prepare technical clarifications, client/consultant responses, compliance statements, deviation lists, and tender submissions.
- Coordinate budgetary quotations and technical offers with procurement and vendors; support CAPEX estimation, value engineering, post-bid clarification, and project handover.
Project Coordination & Technical Support
- Coordinate with project managers, civil, mechanical, procurement, construction, commissioning, O&M teams, clients, consultants, and vendors.
- Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, and site activities; resolve design and site-related technical issues.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- B.E./B.Tech/M.E./M.Tech/Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE), or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience for degree candidates; minimum 6 years for diploma candidates.
- Strong electrical-design experience in solar, wind, BESS, or comparable power projects, preferably on projects of 10 MW and above.
- Power-project EPC tendering or proposal-engineering experience is preferred.
SOFTWARE SKILLS
- Must have: AutoCAD, Google SketchUp, PVsyst, and MS Office / Excel.
- Added advantage: HelioScope, ETAP, HOMER Pro, PSCAD, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
REQUIRED SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Strong hands-on experience in AC-side electrical design for power projects and good understanding of 33 kV and above electrical systems.
- Knowledge of solar, wind, and BESS electrical systems; LT/HT panels, transformers, switchgear, substations, switchyards, transmission lines, SLDs, cable schedules, electrical layouts, BOQs/BOMs, and design calculations.
- Knowledge of IEC, IEEE, NEC, and applicable Indian standards and regulations.
- Exposure to SCADA, monitoring systems, and grid integration is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
