ROLE PURPOSE
The Civil Design Engineer is responsible for producing accurate, safe, economical and constructible civil and structural engineering deliverables for Solar PV, Wind, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Substation/Transmission Line EPC projects. The role translates survey, geotechnical, OEM and project inputs into coordinated design packages from concept through IFC issue and construction support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare civil design criteria, calculations, technical specifications, drawings and BOQs for projects from feasibility through detailed engineering, IFC issue and construction support.
- Develop site-development packages including grading, cut-and-fill optimization, storm-water drainage, erosion-control measures, access/internal roads, culverts, platforms, fencing interfaces and site utilities.
- Design and detail RCC and steel foundations and civil works for solar mounting systems, inverter/transformer stations, substations, control rooms, equipment skids and ancillary facilities.
- Support design of wind-farm balance-of-plant works, including WTG foundations, crane hardstands, turbine access routes, cable-trench crossings, substation/control buildings and associated infrastructure.
- Develop BESS civil packages covering equipment/container foundations, transformer pads, grading, drainage, access and fire-tender routes, containment interfaces and safe clearances; coordinate safety requirements with the Electrical, Fire and OEM teams.
- Design and deliver civil/structural packages for 220/33kV Packaged Substations (PSS), other EHV substations and terminal bays at ISTS PGCIL 400kV stations, including layout coordination and interface with the transmission grid.
- Design foundations for 220kV tower gantry structures and equipment-supporting structures, along with cable trenches, transformer foundations, control room buildings, road works, compound walls and retaining walls; plan and execute associated land-development activities.
- Carry out structural engineering, foundation design and related design calculations and drawings for 220kV and 33kV transmission line structures, in coordination with electrical and survey teams.
- Review and incorporate topographic surveys, geotechnical investigations, hydrology inputs, equipment loads and OEM/vendor drawings; document assumptions, constraints and design risks.
- Prepare and independently check GA drawings, construction details, quantity take-offs, BOQs, material schedules, design reports and responses to RFIs/TQs within the assigned design authority.
- Perform structural analysis and detailing for RCC and steel works; apply approved design criteria, project specifications and applicable codes.
- Coordinate engineering interfaces with Electrical, Mechanical, Geotechnical, Survey, Environmental, Procurement and Site Execution teams to close clashes before IFC issue.
- Provide timely construction support, including technical clarifications, drawing revisions, site inspections when required and review of as-built deliverables.
- Maintain document control, quality checks and on-time delivery of all assigned engineering outputs.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering from a recognised institution. M.E. / M.Tech in Structural Engineering is an advantage.
- 3+ years of post-qualification civil/structural design experience in EPC, power, industrial or infrastructure projects; experience on utility-scale Solar PV, Wind, BESS, Substation or Transmission Line projects is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to prepare and check civil drawings, calculations, BOQs/quantity take-offs and construction-support documentation.
- Practical exposure to design coordination, contractor/site interfaces and the interpretation of survey and geotechnical data.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
- Strong knowledge of RCC and structural-steel design, foundation engineering, geotechnical interpretation, earthworks, site development and drainage design.
- Working knowledge of applicable Indian codes and project specifications, including IS 456, IS 800, IS 875, IS 1893, IS 2911, NBC and applicable IRC/MoRTH requirements, as relevant to the scope.
- Understanding of renewable-project interfaces: PV mounting systems, WTG foundations and wind-farm civil works, substation civil works, and BESS equipment siting/access/fire-safety interfaces.
- Familiarity with 220/33kV substation and terminal-bay civil works at ISTS PGCIL stations, and with 220kV/33kV transmission line tower foundation and structural design.
- Ability to develop defensible calculations, identify constructability risks, optimise quantities and deliver practical solutions without compromising safety or compliance.
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS
- AutoCAD for 2D drafting and detailing; MS Excel for calculations, quantity take-offs and reporting; MS Word and PowerPoint.
- STAAD.Pro or equivalent structural analysis software for assigned civil/structural calculations.
- AutoCAD Civil 3D for surfaces, grading, earthwork quantities, corridors and drainage design.
- ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, Tekla or Revit for structural analysis, detailing and BIM/design coordination.
- GIS and survey-data tools such as Google Earth, QGIS, GPS/DGPS and drone-survey deliverables.
- PVsyst, PVcase, Helios 3D or comparable tools for effective coordination with solar layout and yield teams.
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
- Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain design decisions and risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong planning, prioritisation and attention to detail while managing multiple projects, design revisions and deadlines.
- A collaborative, accountable and solution-oriented approach, with sound judgement on safety, quality, cost and constructability.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required for surveys, inspections, design coordination and construction support.
PREFERRED LANGUAGES
SUCCESS MEASURES
- Timely issue of accurate, coordinated and approval-ready engineering deliverables.
- Compliance with design criteria, codes, quality processes and project documentation requirements.
- Reduced rework through constructible, cost-conscious design and effective interdisciplinary coordination.
- Responsive resolution of technical queries during procurement and construction.
APPLICATION NOTE
Candidates should demonstrate relevant project experience through their resume and portfolio of completed civil/structural design deliverables. Ram Taranga Solutions PVT LTD is committed to a professional, inclusive and merit-based recruitment process.
