Job summary

Chakr Innovation is seeking an electrical engineer for end-to-end design and engineering of BESS and solar power plant projects in India. You will perform energy yield calculations and coordinate all balance-of-plant technical aspects, including wiring, protection, and site layouts.

The role requires hands-on experience in solar PV and BESS design, component selection, and vendor evaluation, with a strong understanding of power electronics and grid interconnection. EPC exposure is preferred.

Qualifications

• B.Tech in Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation/Control Engineering.
• M.Tech in Power Systems/Power Electronics preferred but not mandatory.
• 3–5 years of EPC experience in solar, BESS or power sector.
• Hands-on design and engineering experience in solar PV and/or BESS.
• Strong understanding of power electronics and grid interconnection.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineering of BESS and solar power plant projects, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Perform energy yield calculations and performance analysis for solar PV and BESS.
• Lead and coordinate all balance of plant technical aspects of energy storage projects, including single line diagrams, schematics, and site layouts.
• Carry out component selection (inverters, PCS, transformers, switchgear, cables, protection systems, BESS containers).
• Prepare and maintain BOM and BOQ for projects.
• Prepare RFQ, vendor validation, technical evaluation, and comparison of equipment offers.
• Provide pre-sales engineering support, including conceptual design and feasibility studies.
• Support techno-commercial evaluation of projects (LCOE, ROI, payback).
• Coordinate with PM, procurement, and site teams to ensure on-site implementation.
• Review and validate detailed engineering packages from consultants or EPC contractors.
• End-to-end ownership in scheduling developments, sourcing, planning, and QA/QC.
• Support statutory approvals, grid connectivity studies, and compliance docs.
• Conduct site visits for design validation, audits, and troubleshooting.

Role & responsibilities

• Design and engineering of BESS and solar power plant projects, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Perform energy yield calculations and performance analysis for solar PV and BESS.
• Responsible for leading and coordinating all balance of plant technical aspects of energy storage projects, including developing single line diagram and schematics, plan and elevation drawings, general arrangement and site layout, relay protection and control requirements, layouts for LV/HV equipment. conduit, cable, wiring, grounding, and control buildings.

• Carry out component selection (inverters, PCS, transformers, switchgear, cables, protection systems, BESS containers, etc.) based on technical and site requirements.
• Prepare and maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) and Bill of Quantities (BOQ) for projects.
• Preparation of RFQ, conduct vendor validation, technical evaluation, and comparison of equipment/OEM offers to support procurement decisions.
• Provide pre-sales engineering support, including conceptual design, feasibility studies, and technical proposals for prospective projects.
• Support techno-commercial evaluation of projects, including LCOE (Levelized Cost of Energy), ROI, payback period, and other financial-technical metrics.
• Coordinate with project management, procurement, and site execution teams in installation and commissioning to ensure engineering designs are implemented correctly on site.
• Review and validate detailed engineering packages prepared by consultants, vendors, or EPC contractors.
• End to end ownership in scheduling developments with updates, supporting sourcing initiatives, planning and tracking project reviews, quality control /quality assurance and contractor management.
• Support statutory approvals, grid connectivity studies, and compliance documentation as required for project execution.
• Conduct site visits for design validation, technical audits, and troubleshooting during installation and commissioning.

• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation for internal stakeholders and client submissions including but not limited to installation, commissioning and operations.
• Stay updated on emerging technologies, regulatory changes, and industry best practices in BESS, solar, and grid integration

Preferred candidate profile

• B.Tech in Electrical/Electronics/Instrumentation/Control Engineering and science from an accredited college or university
• M.Tech in Power Systems/Power Electronics is preferred but not mandatory.
• 3-5 years of relevant experience in EPC within the solar, BESS, or power sector.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in solar PV and/or BESS project design and engineering.
• Strong understanding of power electronics, grid interconnection, and electrochemistry fundamentals is an added advantage.
