ROLE SUMMARY
The Export Manager will own Century Extrusions' international business end to end, from identifying and developing new overseas buyers through technical and commercial RFQ management, negotiation, order execution and payment realisation (order-to-cash). Enquiries span extruded profiles, fabricated parts and fully machined components, predominantly for automotive and industrial customers. Almost all business is customised and built to customer drawings, so every enquiry is unique and requires technical evaluation, detailed costing and close coordination with the manufacturing plant at Kharagpur. The role requires a technically grounded commercial professional who can speak confidently with both procurement and engineering teams at international customers.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- 1. Market Research and Lead Generation
- Identify and qualify potential buyers in priority markets using import/export trade data platforms (Volza, ImportGenius) and other online research methods.
- Build targeted prospect lists by segment (automotive OEMs, Tier-1 and Tier-2 suppliers, industrial and other extrusion-intensive sectors) and identify decision-makers in purchasing, engineering and supply chain using LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Apollo and similar tools.
- Analyse trade data to map target buyers' current sources, volumes, product types and price levels, and use this to prioritise accounts.
- Track developments in target markets relevant to aluminium extrusions and components, including competitor activity, duties, trade remedies and trade agreements.
- 2. Outreach and Pipeline Development
- Plan and run structured outreach, progressing prospects from cold to warm to hot engagement through personalised email sequences, LinkedIn, calls and virtual meetings.
- Work with the digital marketing team on campaigns and exhibition outreach, and take full ownership of every lead once generated.
- Represent the company at international trade exhibitions, including pre-booking buyer meetings and converting exhibition contacts into live opportunities.
- Maintain complete and current records of contacts, interactions, opportunities and pipeline stages in the CRM.
- 3. RFQ, Technical and Documentation Management
- Receive and manage customer enquiries and RFQs, including drawings, 3D models, specifications and quality, packaging and logistics requirements.
- Process NDAs, supplier registration forms, supplier questionnaires and onboarding documentation.
- Register and manage the company's presence on customer supplier portals (e.g. SupplyOn, SAP Ariba, Coupa or customer-specific portals), and respond to RFQs issued through them.
- Review technical requirements (alloy and temper, profile geometry, tolerances, mechanical properties, surface finish, machining, packaging) and convert them into a clear feasibility brief for the Kharagpur plant.
- Obtain technical feasibility and technical quotations from the plant, and manage all technical clarifications, deviations and queries between the customer and the plant's engineering, tooling and quality teams through to closure.
- Complete customer RFQ templates and detailed cost breakdown sheets (metal, conversion, tooling, machining, surface treatment, packaging, logistics, overheads and margin) in each customer's required format.
- 4. Commercial Quotation and Pricing
- Prepare commercial quotations based on the plant's technical quotation and submit pricing for management approval before release to the customer.
- Build LME aluminium-based pricing formulas covering metal premiums, conversion and processing costs, fabrication and machining costs, surface treatment, tooling amortisation and metal price adjustment clauses; develop alternative pricing structures where a customer requires them.
- Calculate landed and delivered costs across Incoterms 2020 (EXW, FCA, FOB, CIF, DAP, DDP), including ocean and air freight, insurance, port and handling charges, destination duties and inland logistics.
- Quote in foreign currencies (EUR, USD, GBP, AUD) with appropriate consideration of exchange rate exposure and payment terms.
- Benchmark quotations against market and competitor pricing intelligence.
- 5. Negotiation and Order Conversion
- Lead commercial negotiations on price, volumes, payment terms, Incoterms, lead times, tooling ownership and long-term supply agreements.
- Review purchase orders, supply agreements, quality agreements and customer terms and conditions, and flag commercial and contractual risks to management.
- Coordinate sample and prototype development with the plant, including dispatch, customer feedback and approval.
- Coordinate automotive launch requirements (APQP, PPAP submissions, initial sample reports, run-at-rate) with the plant's quality and engineering teams.
- 6. Order Execution and Plant Coordination
- Act as the single point of contact for export customers from purchase order to delivery.
- Coordinate with the Kharagpur plant on production planning, die trials, sample preparation, production follow-up and dispatch schedules.
- Proactively update customers on timelines, shipment status and any deviations.
- Coordinate with freight forwarders, shipping lines and customs brokers on bookings, freight rates, container planning and shipment tracking.
- Ensure export documentation prepared by the plant (commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, shipping bill, bill of lading, mill test certificates and customer-specific documents) is accurate, complete and timely.
- Coordinate customer complaints, quality concerns and corrective actions with the plant quality team through to closure.
- 7. Payment Realisation and Export Compliance
- Own payment realisation for all export orders, including receivables follow-up and realisation within applicable FEMA/RBI timelines.
- Structure and manage payment and trade finance instruments (letters of credit under UCP 600, documentary collections, advance payment, open account with credit insurance), coordinating with banks and finance on document negotiation and discrepancies.
- Work with finance on ECGC cover, buyer credit limits, foreign exchange and e-BRC.
- Ensure export incentive benefits (RoDTEP, Advance Authorisation, duty drawback, GST LUT) are captured and supported by correct documentation.
- Support destination-market compliance, including EU CBAM emissions data requirements, REACH and RoHS declarations, rules of origin under applicable trade agreements, and awareness of import duties and trade remedies in target markets.
- 8. Account Management and Reporting
- Build long-term relationships with export customers and grow business within existing accounts, including new part numbers and higher value-added machined scope.
- Maintain quotations, sales orders and customer master data in SAP (SD) and the CRM.
- Report regularly to the Director on pipeline, RFQ status, conversions, orders, shipments, receivables and market intelligence.
