Job summary

Som Project seeks a Mechanical QA/QC Engineer to supervise QA/QC activities for mechanical works at an NPCIL project site. You will ensure fabrication, erection and installation meet drawings, project specs, AERB requirements and applicable codes.

The role requires 3–8 years of QA/QC experience in construction/fabrication, with at least 3 years on site; ASME Sec. II/V/VIII/IX, B31.1/B31.3 and AWS D1.1 knowledge is preferred. Tamil language ability is a plus.

Qualifications

• BE/B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–8 years QA/QC experience in construction/fabrication; minimum 3 years at site.
• Knowledge of ASME Sec. II, V, VIII, IX, B31.1/B31.3, AWS D1.1; AERB exposure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee QA/QC activities for mechanical fabrication, erection and installation.
• Review WPS, PQR, WPQ records; monitor welder qualification.
• Witness NDT (RT/UT/MPT/PT/VT) and review NDT reports.
• Inspect incoming materials; verify MTCs and traceability.
• Coordinate audits with NPCIL and inspectors; maintain quality dossiers.

Role

We are seeking a Mechanical QA/QC Engineer to oversee quality assurance and quality control activities for mechanical works at an NPCIL project site. The role involves ensuring that all fabrication, erection, and installation activities comply with approved drawings, project specifications, AERB requirements, and applicable national and international codes.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and monitor the Project Quality Plan, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and method statements for all mechanical activities
• Carry out inspection of piping, structural steel, pressure vessels, tanks, pumps, HVAC, and rotating equipment during fabrication and erection
• Review and verify WPS, PQR, and WPQ records; monitor welder performance and maintain welder qualification records
• Witness and coordinate NDT activities (RT, UT, MPT, PT, VT) and review NDT reports with third-party agencies
• Conduct receipt inspection of incoming materials; verify mill test certificates, heat numbers, and material traceability
• Witness hydrostatic and pneumatic testing, alignment checks, and pre-commissioning activities
• Raise and close NCRs, CARs, and site observations; track corrective and preventive actions to closure
• Prepare and maintain quality dossiers, inspection reports, punch lists, and as-built documentation for handover
• Interface with NPCIL/client QA representatives, TPIA, and statutory inspectors during audits and stage inspections
• Support internal audits and ensure compliance with ISO 9001 and site-specific quality procedures

Candidate Profile

• B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
• [3-8] years QA/QC experience in construction/fabrication; minimum [3] years at site
• Knowledge of ASME Sec. II, V, VIII, IX, B31.1/B31.3, AWS D1.1 and relevant IS codes
• ASNT/ISNT Level II in minimum two NDT methods (RT, UT preferred)
• Able to read isometrics, GA drawings, P&IDs and welding symbols
• Nuclear project or AERB exposure preferred; CSWIP 3.1/AWS CWI an advantage
• Willing to relocate to site. Tamil language ability preferred
