Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and result-oriented Purchase Manager to manage end-to-end procurement activities for the spices business. The candidate will be responsible for sourcing quality raw materials, negotiating with suppliers, controlling procurement costs, ensuring timely availability of materials, and developing reliable vendor relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage procurement of spices, raw materials, packaging materials, and other required items.
- Identify, evaluate, negotiate, and develop reliable suppliers and vendors.
- Source quality spices such as chilli, turmeric, coriander, cumin, pepper, and other ingredients as per business requirements.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, quality standards, delivery schedules, and commercial conditions with suppliers.
- Monitor market prices, seasonal availability, quality trends, and supply conditions to support cost-effective purchasing.
- Ensure timely procurement and availability of materials as per production and inventory requirements.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Stores, Accounts, and Sales teams for procurement planning.
- Verify purchase requirements, prepare purchase orders, and ensure proper documentation and approvals.
- Monitor supplier performance, delivery timelines, quality compliance, and resolve procurement-related issues.
- Maintain and update vendor records, quotations, comparative statements, purchase orders, and procurement reports.
- Control purchase costs and identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.
- Ensure procurement practices comply with company policies, food safety requirements, and applicable quality standards.
- Manage vendor payments and coordinate with Accounts for invoice and payment-related matters.
- Develop alternate suppliers to minimize supply risks and ensure business continuity.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of spices, raw materials, quality parameters, and market sourcing.
- Excellent vendor management, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of purchase processes, inventory requirements, and procurement documentation.
- Good analytical and cost-comparison skills with a commercial mindset.
- Ability to manage multiple suppliers and procurement activities simultaneously.
- Strong coordination, decision-making, follow-up, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and ERP / procurement software.
Educational Qualification
Graduate degree in any discipline; Diploma / Degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Food Technology, Agriculture, or a related field will be an advantage.
Preferred Candidate Profile
Candidates with relevant experience in spices, food ingredients, agro commodities, FMCG, food processing, or related procurement environments will be preferred.
