About the Role
We are looking for a technically strong and experienced Mechanical Engineer for the position of Assistant Manager – Purchase, Logistics & Supply Chain. The candidate should have strong experience in technical procurement of engineering materials, mechanical components, fabricated items, industrial equipment and vendor development.
The role requires strong technical understanding of engineering drawings, specifications, materials, and manufacturing processes, along with procurement and supply chain coordination. The candidate will be based in Sonipat and provide operational support to the Dubai team.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Purchase & Procurement
- Handle end-to-end procurement of mechanical, engineering and industrial materials.
- Procure mechanical components, fabricated parts, machined components, raw materials, consumables and industrial equipment.
- Study and understand technical drawings, BOM, specifications and material requirements before procurement.
- Float RFQs to technically suitable vendors and evaluate quotations.
- Perform technical and commercial comparison of supplier quotations.
- Negotiate pricing, quality, delivery timelines and commercial terms with vendors.
- Prepare and process Purchase Orders as per approved technical specifications.
- Ensure purchased materials meet required technical specifications, drawings and quality standards.
- Develop alternate vendors for critical and engineering components.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Production and Quality teams for technical clarification.
Vendor Development & Technical Evaluation
- Identify and develop technically capable suppliers for mechanical and engineering components.
- Evaluate vendor manufacturing capabilities, machinery, quality systems and production capacity.
- Conduct technical discussions with vendors regarding drawings, specifications and manufacturing feasibility.
- Support supplier development for machining, fabrication, sheet metal, casting and other engineering processes.
- Monitor vendor performance based on quality, cost and delivery.
- Resolve technical issues related to purchased materials and components.
Engineering & Manufacturing Knowledge
The candidate should have practical knowledge of:
- Engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Bill of Materials (BOM).
- Mechanical components and industrial materials.
- Machining processes.
- Fabrication and welding processes.
- Sheet metal components.
- Casting and forging processes.
- Bearings, fasteners and mechanical hardware.
- Steel and other engineering raw materials.
- Surface treatment and finishing processes.
- Material grades and specifications.
- Quality standards and inspection requirements.
Logistics & Supply Chain Coordination
- Coordinate material movement from suppliers to the manufacturing facility.
- Track critical material deliveries and ensure timely availability.
- Coordinate with transporters and logistics partners.
- Support domestic and international shipment coordination.
- Coordinate material dispatches and shipments for the Dubai team.
- Monitor shipment status, delivery schedules and transit timelines.
- Coordinate with internal departments to ensure uninterrupted material flow.
Inventory & Material Planning
- Monitor inventory levels of critical engineering materials and components.
- Coordinate with Production, Planning and Stores teams for material requirements.
- Ensure timely procurement to avoid production delays and material shortages.
- Monitor slow-moving and excess inventory.
- Support inventory optimization and material planning activities.
- Maintain accurate procurement and supply chain records.
Dubai Team Coordination
- Act as a technical coordination point between Sonipat operations and the Dubai team.
- Understand technical material requirements shared by the Dubai team.
- Coordinate procurement and shipment of engineering materials and components.
- Provide regular updates regarding material availability, purchase status and shipment schedules.
- Participate in virtual meetings with Dubai team members.
- Handle urgent technical procurement requirements and ensure timely execution.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of mechanical components and industrial materials.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, welding, casting and sheet metal.
- Knowledge of material grades and technical specifications.
- Experience in technical procurement of engineering components.
- Strong vendor technical evaluation skills.
- Knowledge of BOM and material specifications.
- Understanding of quality requirements for mechanical components.
- Knowledge of domestic and international supply chain processes.
- Experience with ERP/SAP or other procurement systems.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and procurement MIS.

Qualification
Mandatory:
- B.Tech / B.E. in Mechanical Engineering
Preferred:
- Candidates with additional certification or diploma in Supply Chain, Procurement or Logistics will be an advantage.
Experience
- 6–10 years of relevant experience in Technical Purchase, Engineering Procurement, Supply Chain or Vendor Development.
- Mandatory experience in a Manufacturing or Engineering industry.
- Experience in procurement of mechanical components and engineering materials is highly preferred.
- Candidates with experience in Automotive, Industrial Equipment, Heavy Engineering, Fabrication or Manufacturing industries will be preferred.
- Experience in international procurement or coordination with UAE/Dubai teams will be an added advantage.
