Role & responsibilities
1. Procurement & Sourcing
- Source and procure engineering components as per quality, cost, delivery, and quantity requirements.
- Develop reliable and competitive sources for engineering components and materials.
- Identify alternative suppliers and sources to reduce procurement risks.
- Evaluate supplier capability, capacity, quality standards, and commercial terms.
- Prepare and process purchase orders based on approved requirements and material plans.
- Ensure timely procurement of materials to meet production requirements.
2. Supplier Development & Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential suppliers.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop new suppliers based on business requirements.
- Monitor supplier performance related to quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness.
- Work closely with suppliers to resolve supply-related issues.
- Develop alternate suppliers for critical and single-source components.
- Conduct regular supplier reviews and drive supplier improvement initiatives.
3. Cost Management & Negotiation
- Negotiate price, payment terms, credit period, lead time, MOQ, and other commercial conditions.
- Analyze supplier quotations and compare commercial offers.
- Develop basic should-cost estimates based on material, machining, process, and other manufacturing costs.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and value engineering.
- Track raw material and market price trends and take appropriate procurement actions.
- Support annual cost reduction initiatives and procurement savings targets.
4. Material Planning & Inventory Management
- Plan procurement based on production requirements, consumption, lead time, and inventory levels.
- Maintain appropriate Min-Max stock levels for critical and regular items.
- Use ABC analysis for effective inventory control and procurement planning.
- Monitor slow-moving, excess, and obsolete inventory.
- Coordinate with Production, Planning, Stores, and SCM teams to avoid material shortages.
- Optimize inventory levels without affecting production continuity.
5. Overseas Procurement & Logistics
- Plan and coordinate overseas procurement activities where applicable.
- Monitor import orders from PO placement to shipment and material receipt.
- Coordinate with suppliers, freight forwarders, logistics partners, and internal teams.
- Track shipment schedules and ensure timely receipt of imported materials.
- Monitor shipping documents and support smooth import clearance.
- Take timely action on shipment delays and supply risks.
6. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work closely with Production, PPC, Quality, Design, Stores, Finance, and SCM teams.
- Coordinate technical discussions between suppliers and Engineering/Quality teams.
- Ensure timely implementation of engineering changes and revised specifications.
- Support new product development by identifying and developing suitable suppliers.
- Coordinate with Quality for supplier-related quality issues and corrective actions.
7. Procurement Systems & Documentation
- Maintain accurate purchase orders, supplier records, quotations, and commercial documents.
- Ensure procurement transactions are updated in the ERP/MRP system.
- Maintain supplier price records and historical purchase data.
- Prepare procurement reports covering cost, delivery, inventory, and supplier performance.
- Ensure compliance with company procurementpolicies and approval processes.

Preferred candidate profile
We are looking for a candidate with:
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME).
- 612 years of experience in procurement/purchase in engineering manufacturing industries.
- Experience in procurement of machined components, fabricated parts, forgings, castings, hydraulic components, seals, fasteners, and other engineering items.
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, engineering materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience in supplier development, price negotiation, and supplier performance management.
- Experience in overseas procurement, import logistics, shipment planning, and monitoring will be an added advantage.
- Basic knowledge of costing, cost analysis, and cost reduction techniques.
- Good understanding of inventory management, Min-Max levels, ABC analysis, and material planning.
- Strong negotiation, communication, analytical, and coordination skills.
- Good knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and MS Excel.
