Purchase Engineer Mechanical & Project Coordination
Job Summary
We are looking for a Purchase Engineer Mechanical & Project Coordination who can independently handle technical mechanical purchasing and coordinate with the Design, Production, Electrical, and Project teams.
The candidate should have good knowledge of mechanical components, manufacturing processes, drawings, BOMs, vendor development, quotation comparison, negotiation, and material planning.
The role is not limited to purchasing. The person will also act as a Project Coordinator to ensure that required materials are purchased and available as per project requirements and timelines.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
1. Technical Mechanical Purchase
- Study mechanical BOMs, drawings, specifications, and project requirements received from the Design Department.
- Understand mechanical components such as:
- Bearings
- Linear guides
- Ball screws
- Gearboxes
- Motors
- Pneumatic cylinders
- Valves and fittings
- Sensors and mechanical accessories
- Fabricated components
- Machined components
- Fasteners
- Aluminium profiles
- Conveyors and transmission components
- Standard machine components
- Identify suitable suppliers and obtain competitive quotations.
- Prepare comparative statements based on price, quality, delivery time, and technical specifications.
- Negotiate with vendors for price, payment terms, quality, and delivery.
- Issue Purchase Orders as per approved requirements.
- Follow up with suppliers regularly to ensure timely delivery.
2. Coordination with Design Department
- Coordinate with Mechanical Design Engineers regarding:
- BOM clarification
- Drawing revisions
- Material specifications
- Component selection
- Alternative components
- Urgent requirements
- Ensure that purchasing is done according to the latest approved drawing/BOM revision.
- Inform Design about component availability, lead time, and alternative options.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising machine quality.
3. Coordination with Production Department
- Understand the production and assembly schedule.
- Prepare material requirement priorities according to ongoing projects.
- Ensure critical components are available before the assembly stage.
- Coordinate with Production regarding shortages, urgent requirements, and delayed materials.
- Resolve material-related issues quickly to avoid production delays.
4. Project Coordination
- Act as a coordination point between Design Purchase Production Electrical Project/Service.
- Prepare and maintain project-wise purchase status.
5. Vendor Management
- Develop new vendors for machining, fabrication, laser cutting, bending, sheet metal, aluminium profiles, and standard components.
- Maintain a reliable vendor network.
- Evaluate vendors based on:
- Quality
- Price
- Delivery
- Response time
- Technical capability
- Develop alternative vendors for critical components.
- Maintain vendor performance records.
6. Cost Control
- Compare multiple suppliers before purchasing wherever practical.
- Negotiate better commercial terms.
- Identify alternative brands/components to reduce project cost.
- Monitor purchase prices and maintain cost records.
- Support management in achieving project cost targets.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain:
- Purchase Requisition
- RFQ records
- Quotation comparison
- Purchase Orders
- Vendor details
- Delivery schedules
- Material pending reports
- Project-wise purchase status
- Prepare daily/weekly purchase and project coordination reports.
- Maintain proper documentation for all purchased items.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as:
- CNC machining
- Laser cutting
- Bending
- Fabrication
- Welding
- Turning
- Milling
- Aluminium profile assembly
- Good negotiation and vendor management skills
- Strong follow-up ability
- Good communication and coordination skills
- Ability to prioritize urgent project requirements
- Good knowledge of MS Excel
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong ownership and problem-solving mindset
Qualification
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Experience
26 years of experience in:
- Mechanical Purchase
- Machine Manufacturing
- SPM Manufacturing
- Industrial Automation
- Engineering / Manufacturing Industry
Experience in an SPM or automation machine manufacturing company will be an advantage.
