Job summary

Gleneagles Hospital in Chennai seeks a diligent Civil Engineering & Maintenance lead to oversee day-to-day civil maintenance across hospital buildings and renovation projects.

You will coordinate with medical, nursing, infection control, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and biomedical teams to ensure safe, compliant, and timely project delivery, while maintaining meticulous records and reporting to Engineering Head.

Qualifications

• Experience in day-to-day civil maintenance in hospital settings.
• Ability to plan, supervise renovation and layout modifications.
• Coordinate with medical, nursing, infection control, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and biomedical teams.
• Ensure compliance with NABH, fire and life safety norms.
• Maintain records: BOQs, estimates, progress reports, contractor bills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day civil maintenance activities across hospital buildings.
• Ensure upkeep of floors, walls, ceilings, partitions, and structural elements; washrooms and clinical zones.
• Attend and resolve civil-related complaints within stipulated TAT.
• Ensure patient-safe, dust-controlled, and infection-free execution of works.
• Plan, execute, and supervise renovation and refurbishment works (ICU, ward, OT, OPD layouts).
• Coordinate with medical, nursing, infection control, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and biomedical teams to align with workflow and operations.
• Prepare scope of work, BOQ, estimates, drawings, and timelines; monitor site progress and quality.
• Supervise contractors and manpower; ensure safety norms, PPE usage, and permits.
• Maintain documentation and reporting to Engineering Head / Facility Manager.

Roles & Responsibilities

Civil Engineering & Maintenance

• Oversee day-to-day civil maintenance activities across hospital buildings
• Ensure upkeep of:
  • Floors, walls, ceilings, partitions, and structural elements
  • Washrooms, public areas, wards, ICUs, OTs, and clinical zones
• Attend and resolve civil-related complaints within stipulated TAT
• Ensure patient-safe, dust-controlled, and infection-free execution of works

Hospital Renovation & Project Works

• Plan, execute, and supervise:
  • Departmental renovation and refurbishment works
  • ICU, ward, OT, OPD layout modifications
  • Interior upgrades, partition works, tiling, flooring, and false ceilings
• Coordinate with medical, nursing, infection control, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and biomedical teams
• Ensure renovation works are aligned with workflow, safety, and hospital operations

Project Planning & Execution

• Prepare scope of work, BOQ, estimates, drawings, and timelines
• Evaluate contractor quotations and support vendor finalization
• Monitor:
  • Site progress and workmanship quality
  • Material specifications and approvals
  • Adherence to drawings and technical standards
• Ensure timely completion of projects within approved budgets

Contractor & Manpower Management

• Supervise:
  • Civil contractors, masons, carpenters, painters, and helpers
• Allocate daily tasks and monitor productivity
• Ensure contractor compliance with:
  • Hospital safety norms
  • PPE usage and work permits
  • Infection control practices

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all civil works comply with:
  • NABH and hospital accreditation standards
  • Fire and life safety norms
  • Statutory building and safety regulations
• Conduct safety briefings and toolbox talks
• Ensure dust containment, barricading, and safe work practices in patient areas

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain records of:
  • BOQs, estimates, completion certificates
  • Daily progress and maintenance reports
  • Contractor bills, measurements, and material consumption
• Submit reports to Engineering Head / Facility Manager
• Escalate critical structural or safety issues immediately
