Job summary

Lead Hr Services is seeking an Assistant Manager - Production for its fabrication operation in Melmaruvathur, Chennai. The role oversees the production floor, drives continuous improvement, and ensures IMS/ISO compliance while leading engineers and foremen.

The incumbent will manage weekly production plans, KPIs, and CAPEX projects, coordinating with SCM, Quality, Maintenance, and HSE to resolve issues and optimize throughput. Strong experience in welding, NDT, and ERP is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Production Engineering.
• 10–12 years in industrial manufacturing with 5+ years in leadership.
• Experience in ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and ISO documentation.
• Knowledge of welding operations and NDT methods (RT/UT/PT/MT).
• Familiarity with ERP systems, preferably BaaN IVc.

Responsibilities

• Oversee production planning and execution, coordinating with SCM and technical teams.
• Manage KPIs for engineers and foremen; drive continuous improvement and CAPEX projects.
• Ensure IMS/ISO compliance and maintain SOPs, WIs, and operator qualifications.
• Coordinate with Quality, Maintenance, HSE to resolve issues and manage WIP.
• Lead safety initiatives and conduct audits and root-cause analysis (8D).

Location Melmaruvathur Plant, Chennai

Objectives

The Assistant Manager of Production oversees the production floor and provides strategic

leadership to engineers and foremen.

Goals include optimizing processes, ensuring IMS/ISO compliance, and promoting a culture of

safety and performance.

• Drive continuous improvement on the shop floor.
• Maintain production documents to meet IMS and ISO standards.
• Align the operations team with organizational goals.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Production

Engineering.

Experience

• 10-12 years in industrial manufacturing, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
• Experience in industrial operations, audits, HSE, or process risk management.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 implementation.
• Experience managing ISO documentation.
• Experience managing welding operations and qualifications (WPS, PQR, WPQ).
• Understanding of NDT methods (RT, UT, PT, MT)for pressure equipment quality control.
• Experience in using statistical process control tools.
• Familiarity with the Industrial management system is a plus.
• Knowledge of an ERP system (preferably BaaN IVc).
• Expertise in pressure vessel and piping fabrication and assembly, including relevant codes

like ASME/PED.

Roles& Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process & Planning

• Oversee the preparation and execution of weekly production plans, coordinating with SCM

and Technical teams for resource availability.

• Manage performance and KPIs for engineers and foremen.
• Lead continuous improvement and CAPEX projects to modernize the shop floor.
• Coordinate with Quality, Maintenance, and HSE to resolve production issues.
• Develop and manage the Production plan in accordance with Customer Requirements.

Compliance of SoP, WI, Operators Training & Qualification

• Ensure SOP and Work Instruction compliance through regular audits.
• Ensure the availability of updated Work Instructions across the workshop.
• Encourage Polyvalence and adhere to Training procedures.
• Maintain Qualification matrix and annual training plan.
• Qualification of operators in different domains.

Other key responsibilities

• Inter-department coordination with Cross Functional Teams.
• Facing internal & external audits for the production process.
• Perform gap analysis, time studies, and line balancing; manage WIP inventory to optimize

throughput.

• Oversee welding process standards (e.g., GMAW/SMAW, WPS/PQR/WPQ) and

painting/surface preparation quality; lead investigations into production equipment failures to

diagnose faults.

• Participate in the safety committee, lead non-conformance root cause analysis (8D), and

monitor KPIs.

• Manage cross-functional coordination to align timelines and resolve bottlenecks.
• Manage production tools, including procurement, maintenance, and tracking.
• Analyze budget vs. actual man-hours to track productivity.
• Manage and monitor shop floor efficiency and performance KPIs.
• Oversee comprehensive People Management, including team development, performance

feedback, and conflict resolution.

• Drive effective Time Management practices, including prioritization of tasks and maintaining

project schedules.

• Participate in weekly HSE meetings, Walkdowns and active involvements in RCA,

Communication, Ensure workshop compliance with Group IMS standards and requirements.
