Mobilab Portable IVD Diagnostics
Job Description: Procurement Engineer
Department: Procurement
Reports To: Head of Procurement / Manufacturing Lead
Team: Works alongside Procurement team (incl. Shubham, Poonam)
Location: Noida, India (with vendor visits across Delhi NCR)
Experience: 25 years, preferably in electronics manufacturing / medical devices / hardware procurement
Employment Type: Full-time
About the Role
Mobilab builds portable, validated IVD blood-testing devices. The Procurement Engineer is the end-to-end owner of sourcing and supply for both production (recurring, high-volume components) and R&D / electronics prototyping (fast-turnaround, low-volume, first-of-kind parts). This is a technical procurement role: the person must understand what an electronic component or mechanical part actually does, not just its price and lead time, so they can source correctly, negotiate credibly, and troubleshoot supply issues without escalating every decision.
Key Responsibilities
1. End-to-End Procurement Process
- Own the full procurement cycle: requirement gathering, RFQ, vendor evaluation, negotiation, PO release, order tracking, GRN/inward QC coordination, and payment closure.
- Maintain procurement trackers for Production and R&D requests separately, given their different urgency and volume profiles.
- Coordinate with Production, QC, Inventory & Dispatch, and R&D to convert BOMs and indents into accurate purchase specifications.
- Flag stock-outs, lead-time risks, and single-source dependencies proactively to avoid line stoppages.
2. Negotiation & Commercial Terms
- Negotiate pricing, MOQs, payment terms, and delivery schedules with both domestic and international vendors.
- Structure payment terms (advance vs. credit, LC where applicable) to balance cash flow with vendor reliability.
- Benchmark vendor quotes against market rates and maintain a live vendor price/performance comparison.
- Re-negotiate rate contracts periodically for high-volume recurring components.
3. Electronic Components & Manufacturing Knowledge
- Understand electronic components (PCBs, sensors, connectors, optics/photodiodes, microcontrollers, passive components) well enough to validate specs, identify substitutes, and catch mismatches before they hit the line.
- Understand Mobilab's manufacturing process (analyzer assembly, QC checkpoints, burn-in) well enough to procure to the right tolerance and grade, not just the cheapest equivalent.
- Work with R&D to source engineering samples and prototype quantities quickly, understanding these have different risk/urgency profiles than production orders.
4. International Sourcing
- Identify, vet, and onboard international vendors (e.g., Chinese OEMs/component suppliers) for electronics and specialty parts.
- Manage import logistics: customs documentation, HS codes, duties, freight-forwarder coordination, and landed-cost calculation.
- Track international lead times and buffer stock planning to de-risk long shipping cycles.
5. Local Delhi NCR Vendor Management
- Build and maintain a reliable vendor base across Delhi NCR for packaging, printing, job work, sampling, and logistics.
- Manage quick-turnaround local job-work vendors (machining, molding, assembly outsourcing) for both production and R&D needs.
- Coordinate local logistics and courier/transport vendors for inbound material and outbound dispatch support.
6. AI & Digital Tools
- Use AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) for vendor research, RFQ drafting, quote comparison, and procurement documentation to improve speed and accuracy.
- Maintain digital procurement records (trackers, dashboards) and support automation of repetitive procurement tasks PO generation, reminders, vendor follow-ups.
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets/ERP-style tools for inventory-linked procurement planning.
7. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain vendor documentation, quality certificates, and approved-vendor lists in line with ISO 13485 / QMS requirements.
- Ensure incoming material documentation supports traceability for regulated components.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or related field; MBA in Operations/Supply Chain is a plus.
- 25 years in procurement/purchase within electronics, medical device, or hardware manufacturing.
- Working knowledge of electronic components and reading BOMs/datasheets.
- Proven negotiation experience with both domestic and international vendors.
- Familiarity with import/export documentation and basic customs process.
- Strong Excel skills; comfort using AI tools for research and documentation.
- Local Delhi NCR vendor network (packaging, job work, logistics) is a strong plus.
- Excellent follow-up discipline — this role lives or dies on chasing vendors and deadlines.
What Success Looks Like (First 6 Months)
- Zero production line stoppages caused by procurement delays.
- A documented, benchmarked vendor base for top components, with at least one backup vendor identified per critical part.
- Reduced average procurement turnaround time for R&D sampling requests.
- Clean, audit-ready procurement documentation for QMS purposes.
