About the Role
We are looking for an Electronics Sourcing & Procurement Engineer to own the sourcing and purchase of electronic components, small devices, and test tools & equipment that power our CNC system development programme. Working closely with the hardware, firmware, PCB, and test teams, you will translate design and BOM requirements into a reliable, cost-effective, and on-time supply of parts.
From active and passive components through connectors, modules, instruments, and lab equipment while building a strong, qualified vendor base.
This is a hands‑on, engineering-aware procurement role: you understand what you are buying, read datasheets and BOMs fluently, and act as the commercial bridge between R&D and the supplier ecosystem. With 5 to 10 years in electronics component sourcing, you are expected to own categories end‑to‑end and keep design projects unblocked; as you grow, you will shape sourcing strategy, vendor scorecards, and cost roadmaps for the hardware group.
Sourcing & Procurement
- Source and purchase electronic components active (ICs, microcontrollers, FPGAs, power devices), passive (resistors, capacitors, inductors), electromechanical, connectors, and modules against design BOMs.
- Procure small devices, sub-assemblies, sensors, displays, and embedded modules for prototype and production builds.
- Source test tools and equipment oscilloscopes, logic analysers, DMMs, bench power supplies, soldering / rework stations, and specialized instrumentation for the electronics labs.
- Convert engineering BOMs and requisitions into purchase orders with correct part numbers, specifications, and quantities.
Vendor Development & Management
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard component distributors, manufacturers, and equipment suppliers domestic and global.
- Build and maintain a qualified vendor base with alternate sources for critical and long‑lead parts.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, MOQs, and framework / rate agreements.
- Track and improve vendor performance on quality, delivery, and responsiveness through scorecards.
Cost, Lead Time & Supply Continuity
- Drive cost optimization, should‑cost analysis, and spend consolidation across components and equipment.
- Manage lead times, buffer stock, and reorder planning to keep R&D and pilot builds unblocked.
- Handle EOL / obsolescence, allocation, and shortages proactively securing alternates and last‑time buys.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner with hardware, firmware, PCB, and test engineers to align sourcing with design and project milestones.
- Coordinate with stores, quality, accounts, and logistics on inward, inspection, and payment cycles.
- Support new product introduction (NPI) with early sourcing input on availability, cost, and lead time.
Compliance & Documentation
Ensure RoHS / REACH and specification compliance of sourced parts, with datasheets and certificates on file.
Maintain accurate records vendor master, price history, PO / GRN documentation, and import paperwork where applicable.
Support import procurement, HSN / customs, and logistics coordination for overseas buys.
Required Skills
- 510 years in electronics component sourcing / procurement, ideally in electronic product design & development or EMS / manufacturing.
- Strong ability to read BOMs, datasheets, and technical specifications and source correct / alternate parts.
- Hands‑on with component categories semiconductors, passives, connectors, electromechanical, modules, and test equipment.
- Vendor development and negotiation pricing, lead time, MOQ, and commercial terms.
- Familiarity with distributor ecosystems (Mouser, DigiKey, Arrow, Avnet, element14, and Indian distributors / local vendors).
- Working knowledge of ERP / procurement systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar) and advanced MS Excel.
- Understanding of RoHS / REACH compliance and obsolescence management.
Nice to Have
- Masters in supply chain / Sourcing / Materials Management.
- Experience sourcing for industrial automation, or embedded / power electronics products.
- Exposure to import procurement, customs / HSN, and Incoterms.
- Familiarity with PLM / BOM management tools and cost‑modelling.
- Certification such as CPSM / CIPS or equivalent.
Soft Skills
- Strong negotiation and relationship-building secures value without straining vendor partnerships.
- Analytical and detail-oriented accurate on part numbers, specifications, pricing, and lead‑time data.
- Proactive ownership anticipates shortages and keeps design projects unblocked.
- Clear communication and coordination reliable bridge between R&D and the supply base.
