Job Title

Principal Engineer (Embedded Platform Software)

Job Overview

Collins is building industry challenging multi‑core platform architecture, making the products smaller, smarter and more efficient. Platform software provides an infrastructure for hosting an operating system and application services that interfaces with hardware.

Responsibilities

To work as an independent contributor in a sprint team developing, enhancing and maintaining mission‑critical platform software. Communicate and coordinate effectively with the German teams. Build and nurture teams offshore, develop team strengths and improve upon their weaknesses. Lead and motivate the team on future technologies. Maintain integrity and work ethics within the team.

What You Will Learn

Qualifications (Required)

• 10+ years of experience in embedded software development.
• Excellent understanding of system software concepts, binary executables, debug information, OS concepts.
• Strong C and C++ programming skills with good knowledge in Linux shell scripting, Python.
• Strong RTOS concepts with experience on working with multicore/multi‑threading, hypervisor using VxWorks on PowerPC and ARM.
• Board bring‑up, Linux device drivers, board support package, bootloader, initialization software.
• Good knowledge of processors and architecture (ARM, PowerPC, IMA etc.).
• Expertise with software configuration management and change control process (DOORS, JAMA, SVN, JIRA, GIT etc.).
• Experience in using embedded development tools, debuggers, JTAG, Lauterbach, and analyzers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prototyping, design, architecture skills.
• Good to have exposure to ARINC 653 software specification and IMA.
• Avionics domain knowledge, standards and DO178 guideline is desirable.
