Job Description

Optometrist is responsible for conducting comprehensive eye and vision assessments and providing primary vision care within professional scope. The includes visual acuity testing, refraction, binocular vision assessment, screening for common eye conditions, contact lens and eyewear guidance, patient counselling, maintaining clinical records, and coordinating with ophthalmologists and other eye-care professionals when further evaluation or treatment is required.

• Conduct comprehensive vision and eye-related assessments within professional scope.
• Perform visual acuity and refraction examinations.
• Assess near and distance vision and binocular vision.
• Perform subjective and objective refraction as appropriate.
• Conduct colour vision and other routine vision screening tests.
• Perform basic ocular health screening using appropriate equipment.
• Identify abnormal findings requiring referral to an ophthalmologist or specialist.
• Assist patients in understanding their vision assessment results.
• Recommend appropriate corrective eyewear based on prescription and patient requirements.
• Assist with contact lens assessment, fitting, and patient education where qualified.
• Coordinate with ophthalmologists regarding patients requiring further clinical evaluation.
• Maintain accurate optometry records, prescriptions, and patient documentation.
• Ensure proper operation and maintenance of optometry equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the examination area.
• Educate patients regarding eye care, visual hygiene, and follow-up requirements.
• Support preoperative or postoperative eye-care assessments as directed.
• Follow infection prevention and patient safety procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient and clinical information.
• Participate in quality improvement, clinical audits, and professional training.
• Follow applicable professional standards, centre SOPs, and ethical guidelines.
