Qualifications

  • 3–8 years EHS/Safety experience in chemical/process industries.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor plant operations for compliance with HSE policies and permits.
  • Conduct safety inspections, PTW, and PPE checks.

  • Lead incident investigations and prepare reports with corrective actions.

Job description

Role & responsibilities

A. Safety Compliance & Monitoring

  • Monitor plant operations to ensure compliance with company HSE policies, SOPs, and statutory safety regulations.
  • Conduct routine plant safety inspections and safety patrols during shifts.
  • Ensure compliance with permit-to-work (PTW) systems for hot work, confined space entry, excavation, height work, line breaking, and other hazardous activities.
  • Verify availability and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

B. Hazard Identification & Risk Management

  • Identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and potential hazards.
  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and risk assessments for operational and maintenance activities.
  • Recommend and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor critical safety barriers and controls in high-risk process areas.
  • Monitor environmental compliance requirements related to emissions, waste handling, and chemical management.
  • Ensure safe storage, handling, and transportation of chemicals.
  • Monitor occupational health hazards including noise, dust, heat stress, and chemical exposure.
  • Support implementation of health surveillance programs.

C. Incident Management

  • Respond to emergencies, accidents, near misses, chemical spills, and unsafe conditions.
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Prepare incident reports and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
  • Maintain records of safety observations and incidents.

D. Emergency Preparedness

  • Support emergency response activities and coordinate with emergency response teams.
  • Monitor firefighting equipment, emergency exits, eye wash stations, safety showers, and spill control equipment.
  • Participate in mock drills and emergency preparedness exercises.
  • Ensure emergency procedures are followed during abnormal situations.

E. Training & Safety Awareness

  • Conduct safety induction programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and shift safety briefings.
  • Promote safety awareness campaigns and behavioural safety initiatives.
  • Guide employees on safe work practices and regulatory requirements.

F. Audits, Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain safety inspection records, observation reports, permit records, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly safety reports.
  • Track safety KPIs and monitor closure of corrective actions.
  • Assist during internal and external HSE audits.

4. Qualifications & Experience
  • Preferably Bachelor's Degree/Diploma in Chemical Engineering/Environment.
  • Advanced/Post Graduate diploma in Industrial Safety approved by State government for Safety Officer.
  • 3 to 8 years of experience in EHS/Safety in a chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, fertilizer, or process manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in handling PTW systems, incident investigations, risk assessments, trainings and emergency response.
  • Knowledge of chemical process safety and hazardous chemical management.
