Qualifications

Responsibilities

Role & responsibilities

Safety Compliance

• Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety laws, regulations, and statutory requirements.
• Implement company HSE policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and identify unsafe acts and conditions.
• Ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and tracked to closure.

Risk Assessment & Hazard Control

• Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Risk Assessments, and Hazard Identification.
• Identify potential risks associated with machinery, electrical systems, chemicals, working at height, confined spaces, material handling, and other plant activities.
• Recommend appropriate engineering, administrative, and PPE controls.
• Monitor the effectiveness of implemented safety controls.

Incident & Accident Management

• Investigate accidents, near misses, unsafe occurrences, and property damage incidents.
• Prepare incident investigation reports and identify root causes.
• Recommend corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
• Maintain safety incident and accident records.

Safety Training & Awareness

• Conduct safety induction training for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Conduct toolbox talks, safety meetings, and awareness programs.
• Provide training on PPE, emergency response, fire safety, machine safety, chemical handling, and safe work practices.
• Promote employee participation in safety improvement initiatives.

Emergency Preparedness

• Develop and maintain emergency response procedures.
• Support fire drills, emergency evacuation drills, and mock drills.
• Inspect fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, alarms, emergency exits, and other emergency equipment.
• Coordinate with emergency response teams during incidents.

Plant & Machinery Safety

• Monitor machine guarding and ensure safety devices are properly installed and maintained.
• Ensure safe operating procedures are followed for production equipment.
• Monitor Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) practices where applicable.
• Inspect lifting equipment, cranes, forklifts, pressure equipment, and other safety-critical systems.

Permit-to-Work System

• Implement and monitor permit-to-work systems for high-risk activities.
• Review permits for activities such as hot work, confined space entry, work at height, electrical work, and maintenance activities.
• Ensure required safety precautions are in place before work starts.

Contractor Safety

• Monitor contractor compliance with site safety requirements.
• Conduct contractor safety inductions and periodic inspections.
• Ensure contractors use appropriate PPE and follow approved safe work procedures.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain safety inspection reports, training records, incident reports, risk assessments, and statutory records.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly HSE reports.
• Track safety KPIs such as accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, training hours, and corrective actions.
• Support internal, external, and statutory safety audits.

Preferred candidate profile

Diploma / Degree in Industrial Safety, Fire & Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline.

Relevant experience in a manufacturing, engineering, automotive, chemical, pharmaceutical, or similar industrial environment.
