Job Role: NOC Analyst

Role Overview:

A Network Operations Center (NOC) Analyst is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and supporting an organization's network infrastructure to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability. The role involves proactively identifying network issues, performing first-level troubleshooting, managing incidents, and escalating complex problems to higher support teams when necessary.

NOC Analysts work with network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, and access points while using network monitoring and IT service management tools. They collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to resolve issues, minimize downtime, and ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).

Key Responsibilities:

24x7 Network Monitoring

• Monitor network devices using NMS tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix, Nagios, Cisco Meraki Dashboard, etc.).
• Identify and respond to alarms, alerts, and outages.

Incident Management

• Detect network issues and perform initial troubleshooting.
• Log incidents in the ITSM tool (ServiceNow, Jira, BMC Remedy, etc.).
• Escalate critical issues to L2/L3 engineers or vendors when required.
• Track incidents until resolution.

Network Troubleshooting

• Diagnose LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, Internet, and MPLS connectivity issues.
• Verify interface status, VLANs, routing, switching, and firewall connectivity.
• Check device health (CPU, memory, bandwidth utilization, errors).

Device Monitoring

• Monitor routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, access points, and servers.
• Ensure all network devices are online and operating within acceptable thresholds.

Performance Management

• Analyze bandwidth usage and network performance.
• Identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements.

Change Management

• Support scheduled maintenance activities.
• Verify services before and after network changes.
• Maintain change documentation.

Documentation

• Update network diagrams and asset inventory.
• Maintain SOPs, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.

Vendor Coordination

• Coordinate with ISPs and hardware vendors for circuit or hardware issues.
• Follow up on support tickets until closure.

• Hands-on experience monitoring and troubleshooting LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi, VPN, and Internet connectivity.
• Experience working with routers, switches, firewalls, wireless controllers, and access points (Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, Juniper, etc.).
• Familiarity with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix, Nagios, Cisco Meraki Dashboard, or similar.
